relyet
Hello, I recently picked up an EB-0 on craigslist, and am just curious about the body. I've seen some things online that say that some bodies are plywood and some are mahogany. Is there a way to tell the difference without taking the neck off and looking at the inside of the body? I should note that it is Indonesian-made and has a nice wood-grain visible under the lacquer. Like I said, just curious. I like the bass a lot either way. Have put on flatwounds and a piece of sponge under the strings. As a guitar player, very happy with it, despite my initial reservations. Thanks! Any help is appreciated. Rob R
Have a look in the control cavity, you might be able to tell in there.
relyet
I opened it up, and it was painted black. Any indicators I would notice in there? Thanks for the suggestion.
Rob R
If it was plywood you should still be able to see the plies even if it's painted black, at least on the plywood bodies I've seen. They usually don't do alot of finishing on the inside of the cavities that I've seen. If you can't tell that way, I'd wait until the next time you restring it and pop the neck off.
