onewilyfool
I've been doing a lot more "keeping time" with my foot slapping the floor at my cafe gig.....i'm wondering if there are any acoustic "stomp boxes" that would be a good compliment ( and non-overpowering) to non-amped guitar playing and singing??? Any suggestions appreciated!!!
ParlourMan
You mean effects? I suppose compressors and Delays would be the kindest to acoustic stuff, wah-wah's, flangers et al not so much, drives & dists a bit of a no no unless you are in Wheatus. Jayyj
I think he means something more like a wood block with a pickup in it - I have a UK made Logarhythm stomp box which sounds pretty good, or I think Shadow make one.

I was wondering if he meant that or not, I too have a logarhythm, don't use it much though as I tend not to use the amp at home...
BluesKing777
Here are a few models including the catchily named "Bear Stomp" or the "Bad Dog": http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bear-Foot-Stompbox-Rhythm-Foot-Drum-Stomp-box-Cigar-Box-Guitar-/180897001418?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2a1e4d2fca Use with discretion - too much is horrible. If you are using your AER amp, you will need another input if you are using say 1. guitar 2. Vocal Mic then......so some sort of twin plug adaptor/mixer to plug in Bear Stomper. BluesKing777. EuroAussie
We were thinking of getting one of those things. Is it possible to amplify them or does it have to be purely 'acoustic' output ?

blindboygrunt
i find that my leg will keep time if i get myself properly lost in the song , trouble is , if i started to think about it having to keep a rhythm i think it'd go to shite :)

This is a pretty good instructional video, if you look at 1:05 for that kind of material it would be idea and I reckon pretty steady enough not to screw up.\
ParlourMan
Before you get too excited EA, quick question... How much do you plug the amp in at home? Any neighbours that would make this limiting? As I said, I have one, probably used it twice... I just never plug the amp in at home, great idea for sure, but you probably wont get to do this much later than 9-10pm, I tend to play guitar later in the evenings, so playing quite softly, therefore opportunity to use this is currently at zero. They're cool, especially if you can get something quite nifty going with it, but like everything else there's going to be a fair bit of practice and rehashing of tunes to get up to speed. If you're a late-night picker it's going to be sat there in a corner.
blindboygrunt
i seen a blues duo in belfast bar once and the guitarist had a drum kick pedal that he connected to a small suitcase and his other foot shoved in through one of those ring tambourines .... used them to great effect ... guitar , singing and drumming though .... could end up sounding like a roadie falling down the stairs
ParlourMan
could end up sounding like a roadie falling down the stairs You'd certainly want to be used to using one for quite a while before dazzling or bamboozling the public with your efforts in the one-man-band arena of music. But for rehearsal at home I imagine i would use this acoustically.

Del Nilppeznaf
go old school and tack bottle tops to the sole of your shoe heheh now ya talking. I think Old Wily.. would be acoustic in his coffee shop gigs..no ? Like Elmer says..just get some type of wood block or similar to produce a good sound..experiment..I have seen guys just stomping a wooden block..and it can sound good
onewilyfool
Yeah...I was thinking pure acoustic without an am, which is how I sing and play guitar ....Like stomping Tom Conners (plywood) or some of the old blues guys stomping on a fruit box on the front porch....just wondered if there was a portable pure acoustic stomp box... waynerouse
After unsuccessfully trying to build my own acoustic stomp, I bought this one.
Brewboy
When I had the pleasure of warming up Chris Smither, if memory serves me, he just had a board with a SM57 taped to it. I think he was also wearing tap shoes with metal on the soles.
telemaster03
I bought one of those Bear Claw boxes, as well as a Foot Bass http://www.footbass.com/ . Both work fine, the Bear Claw was way less $$$. My only complaint is that they are both a square box shape with no taper, and as I prefer to play standing up it's hard to use either one. With both of those boxes you get the best sound hitting in the middle of the box. If you stand while playing you have to balance on one foot for the whole tune. I'm not that coordinated. If you're a sit-down guy either one is great. I've been thinking about getting something like the Logarhythym or the Kopf Oak Toekicker that I can rest my full foot on. BluesKing777
It came back to me - I did have a few goes on a stomp box years ago - it was all the rage at the time - John Hammond Jnr. My old football knee gave out halfway through a tune........ BluesKing777.
