xxx
Hi, I just received my new 70's Tribute Firebird. My only concern is the bridge mini humbucker is very wobbly in the cavity. I took it out and see there are no springs or any other type of tensioning device that would help stabilize it, just a metal plate that the humbucker screws into with very long screws into the very bottom of the cavity. So is it normal for the bridge pickup to be so wiggly? Thanks!

My local GCs and sam Ashes have not carried that Tribute bird. Are you able to post any kind of 'clean', undistorted, sound clips?
Guitarspaz
Same problem on mine. I installed some foam padding underneath each pickup. I also put a bit more on the back edge of the pickup closest to the bridge, so that the pickup top ended up sitting parallel with strings. I had to do the same thing with the Les Paul Deluxe I bought a few years ago. It's an easy cheap fix. I can't stand that pickup flopping around like that. Drives me nuts. You'd think Gibson would spend the extra 50 cents for some padding, but oh well. Also, my string ground was not attached inside the cavity. Buzzed bigtime. I soldered it in place and its good to go now. All of that being said, the setup was perfect. Good action and intonation. Love the new minis as well. I'd buy again. I got mine for 599 on a blowout. Well worth it. It's a great player, even if it did need a little attention.
eddie20850
I think I got lucky, the pickups in mine are stable. It was made 8/23 so maybe by that point they had gotten hip and fixed the problem before shipping others in that condition. I got it from Wildwood Guitars in Colorado and as a Lefty, seems I'm lucky also-no more Sunburst around it seems. GC had one listed at 499 so I thought wow, but when I went to order it said it was unavailable. I paid 649 on a 'new' model for what seems was a returned model, thought it has all the booklets, warranty card too, just also has the receipt from the first purchaser. I'm gonna keep it regardless due to lack of available models and it's good condition. my 'tribute' to Allen Collins
