tunanut13
i recently purchased a 2008 gloss '58 reissue ( serial number over 1000 ) from a friend. the guitar is pretty heavy, i would say 9.5 to 9.75 pounds. is this the norm for this model ? i have read that these guitars are supposed to have hand picked choice woods. is my guitar the norm for this model ? thanks, tw
Rudager
Well my LP Custom is apparently weight-relieved and it still weighs around 10 pounds...I suppose with customs and reissues, the demographic wants and demands a heavy guitar...that's the way they have been in the past and that's what's synonymous with classic LPs...and if there were a really light, say 8 lb., Custom LP, the buyer would probably be like WTF, Gibson cheaped out on me. There's all sorts of ideas that a heavier guitar means more tone, more mojo, etc etc...and what a lot of people are finding out is that the new chambered bodies sound really great too...I think my LP sounds fantastic...and the 2008 standard sound fantastic too and I don't really see all the fuss...I guess time will tell how chambered bodies age and become more reasonant as time goes on... Sorry, I think I wandered a bit OT
Tim Plains
tunanut13, that is on the heavier side, more like the heaviest! I'm sure yours is not the only one. I've got three reissues...two of them weigh around 9 lbs, and the lightest one being 8.2 lbs! Rudager, 10 lbs is probably the average/ideal weight for a LP Custom...mine is 10 lbs. Unless it's a historic reissue, it it weight-relieved. I haven't played too many historic Customs, but the ones I have played were in the 9 - 9.5 lb range.
