Is Gibson discontinuing the LP Studio Brand?

I would not be surprised to see Gibson phase out the Studios.

I would be absolutely staggered if they did. It used to be seen as the poor relation, with clever marketing and product positioning they've turned it into the cool choice for the thinking, non conformist. The too cool to pay for branding set. I doubt they would invest the time and money that took and then drop the line.

Gibson has tried changing it's traditional product line ups over the years and it's never been met well by the market. The LP and the Studio are here to stay IMHO.

Maybe but Gibson seems to be blurring the lines with 2013 Product lines.

I may be wrong, but I think it's kinda like the automobile business over the past century by the bigger corporations.

The idea is to have something of a range of popular type products across the price spectrum that have variations in marque and bling, but are essentially the same chassis design.

Gibson and Epi seem to have an interesting product mix that offers something of interest to folks in a huge segment of the guitar marketplace. You may buy Gretch, for example, but you've gotta at least consider an Epi and/or Gibbie at similar price points.

I'd be surprised to see the LP Studio go. It's a classic chassis with the "Rolls Royce" branding at a relatively low price point. The high end Epiphone (Oldsmobile in a possible US comparison) LP at the same price point has the bling of a higher-end Gibson, but the different marque and a more machine-manufactured rep as "made in China" label as opposed to "Made by American craftsmen in music city USA."

Then again, marketing decisions are made nowadays with batches of figures and statistical "what if" analysis as well as more easily comprehended batches of sales figures...

Now why would yous guys give this guy 4 negatives for stating that he wouldn't be surprised if Gibson phased out studios? You think he has the power to make it so?

Pure silliness. Go back to the playground and hit up the swings.

they sell too many of them to get rid of it.

Think of it, in addition to the ones that aren't willing to pay the price for a standard or custom who want that sound, you'll also get people working their way up to a LP standard who get these as their first or second guitar, etc. I got better instruments as I got better with the guitar and eventually started figuring out what I liked - the LP Studio is a stepping stone to the Standard or Custom for people like me.

The Gibson Les Paul Studio is quite possibly the best combination of quality guitar for low cost that's ever been available.

And at no point in it's history have players failed to recognize this.

My Studio is the proverbial sh*t!

I agree. It's a far better guitar than an American Standard Tele. Bridge, pickups, fretboard (mine is Rosewood), woods, on and on.

If anything, with the dollar being de-valued and such, I'd venture to say the Studio will be standing when some other models are phased out.....
