Bluezman64
Hey all. I have a used ES-335(?) that I bought off Craigslist. The seller knew nothing about it. It may be a replica, (and was sold as such) but the neck appears to be genuine Gibson. There are no decals, stickers or stamps inside the body. The decal on the back of the headstock is #U0678399 with Made in U.S.A. under it. I've looked at the PDF documents on Gibson Customer Service, guitardaterproject.org and several different websites, but I can't find any serial numbers that follow this format. Any ideas? StijnV
The neck looks fake to me as well. Kind regards, Stijn
voxman59
No expert but the stamp on the back looks funny, not sure Gibson stamps the # are ingraved into the wood. How much $$? Bluezman64
It isn't a stamp, it's a decal, which apparently Gibson has used at times. I have contacted Gibson directly and sent them pictures. They are looking into it. $500 with genuine Gibson HSC (which is $190 on Musician's Friend). So $310 for the guitar. It plays like a dream, sounds like heaven and looks awesome with the flamed maple top & back, and gold hardware. So I think I got a good deal regardless. L5Larry
Headstock serial number decal - wrong Serial number font and format - wrong Headstock shape - wrong Pickguard - wrong Truss rod cover - wrong Bridge angle - wrong Knob placement - wrong No sticker inside body - wrong Gold hardware - wrong .......shall I go on? Yes, Gibson did ink stamp serial numbers. Yes, Gibson did use waterslide decals for a short period (like 3 years..75,76,77). Neither looked like this. What you have here, as you may have suspected, is a counterfeit. Glad you're satisfied with the price, sound and playability.... but it's not a Gibson!
