LeoPaul422 Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 As a result of the sustain that you get from the larger body size, the 1275 is absolutely the most beautiful sounding guitar for 6 String Slide & Ethereal 12 String Chords.
rct Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I agree, they can sound delightful. I use whatever guitar(s) I have with me for slide. For 12 string, most bands I've been in, if'n we absolutely have to do it, which is pretty rare, we use two guitar players, one nashvegas tuned. The maintenance of a 12 string for a working band is just too much for the few songs needed, so somebody keeping a Nashville tuned guitar is pretty easy relatively speakin. rct

So my guitars are mainly used in studios. I keep the 6 string neck on my 1275 set up for slide with open tunings. I haven't had it tuned to standard tuning in years. I like the 1275 better for slide than any guitar that I have played. Another problem with a 1275 for gigging is that it is very heavy and it is prone to neck dives. Also if you break a string on the bottom six on the 12 string or the top 3 on the 6 string, it is a hassle to re-string because you can't use a string winder. A one guitar band playing "Stairway to Heaven" live is one of the few applications where a 1275 really fits for playing live IMHO unless you are using it mainly as a showpiece. It is an attention getter.
