gkielczewski
Hi folks. I need some help on a supposedly 2007 Les paul 1960 reissue someone wants to sell me. The tag in the case has the serial number on it and according to that number its made april 30 2007 and production number 99. However there is no serial number on the headstock or any where else visible on the exterior. Does this one have a number hidden inside? Or is this a fake with a not so fake case and paperwork. pippy
1960 re-issues have an ink-stamped serial number on the back of the headstock. It should be in the form 0 7XXX = (196)0 (200)7 XXX where XXX is the production number. If the tag in the case is of a normal serial number - i.e. first and fifth gives year and the last three are production number - then it's certainly not the number from a R-I. This shows a R-I in the middle with two 1960 Classics either side. R-I's are quite easy to spot as compared with both the regular USA run and, of course, from fakes. Pics would help. P. gkielczewski
The ink stamped number became visible with better lighting. And it proves itself to be a 2005 mdel reissue. However the serial tag in the case differs in number. Case is proper for a reissue case. I'm thinking that the tag in the case has been mixed up with someone elses inspection tag. Case tag for inspection says LPBGLDB1 and serial number on tag is 012070399 does not match the guitar number like on my other classic.
pippy
LPBGLDB1 means Les Paul BFG in Trans-Black finish. 012070399 (as you've already established) means April 30 2007 so that would tie-in with the BFG production period. Simple answer is either the paperwork has ended up in the wrong case or it's the wrong case for the R-I. If you're still not convinced send Gibson Customer Services an email and they'll be able to tell you exactly what 012070399 should be. Here you go; http://www2.gibson.c.../Talk-2-Us.aspx P. Kaiser Bill
I have a LPDC (double cut) ser# 018070358. They say the number comes back to an SG. What can you tell me about the year/month it was made. I trust you more than the guy on the phone.
