LP_VM55
I have had a Les Paul Vintage Mahogany and I am in the market for a solid amp (preferrably Marshall, but I'll consider others) around $300-$400 and strap locks. My issue with strap locks is I am afraid to to unscrew ANYTHING of my guitar, I am even afraid to take off the damn pickgaurd. Plus, i heard there are issues with different screw sizes when trying to install them on the Vintage Mahogany... HELP!!!
cvansickle
If the screw for the bottom strap lock button is too long, it will bore into the VM's chamber area. I had to fill the original hole on mine with wood glue.

mr newhaven
i have a VM and i took the guard off and added strap locks...you have nothing to worry about! if you want to take off the guard its just two screws...the one on the side of the lp and the one at the top of the guard...it will show two holes from the screws...but i like that... secondly on the straplocks...you can get dunlops...or zeppelins they work fine...just unscrew your old one...(save them never throw them out...put them together in a sandwich bag and leave it in your case or in a shoebox or something...you might want originals back on one day) its really just as easy as that...i think the issues you mentioned dont apply with the VM because it has no finish to ruin and its just a piece of wood! dont be afraid of it...roll up those sleeves and dive right in! good luck...you'll like the results and it should literally take you 15 minutes tops to do everything from start to finish
mr newhaven
one more thing...dont get me wrong a marshall stack or half stack with a gibson is serious! i have always liked all tube amps better though...its just a preference i guess...that being said you should take a look at a marshall MICRO stack! http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-MG15MSII-Micro-Stack?sku=482705&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=26040210 i have never heard anyone say these dont rock!!!!!! plus its pretty reasonable and it looks like a full stack...only miniaturized

mr newhaven
Now will the dunlops or zeppelins fit in BOTH strap holes or will I have to a lil DIY carpentery.... i got the zeppelins and they fit without any sort of DIY-ing... i dont know if i am 100% happy with them...more like 85% BUT THEY WORK AND I FEEL SECURE WITH THEM IN! i bought a new melody maker and they have regular straplocks just with bigger buttons...that seems to be quite nice as well! check out the 08 standards...they come with dunlops i think...maybe just buy those and screw them right in! So, i started at looking at combos...MG50DFX paticularly, it has more watts, has more precise controls over equliazer for clean and overdrive, it's easier to transport, and is footswitch compatible.... Any more info you guys can give me on amps is highly appreciated
BIGBENDS
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-DUN-7007SI Have a look at these. They're inexpensive and on my less expensive guitars they work quite well. They're 2 to a box, so you have one for each side. I'll edit later with suggestions about a good amp for those Burstbucker pickups you have in the VM. Here are a couple of decent starter amps for a good price: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-V-Series-V18212-18W-2x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=487055 http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-V-Series-V50112-50W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=487054 All tube and the second one is loud enough to gig with in small clubs. But if you want to spend a bit more on a better amp look at these. http://humbuckermusic.com/ortitecoinst.html These are great tube amps for the price. Check your local music stores. They can usually have the better price.
esch
FORGET ABOUT SCREWING STRAP LOCKS INTO YOUR GUITAR. I use these on all my guitars and have never dropped a guitar. They're cheap and easy like many women I know ;-) http://www.zzounds.com/item--DNP7007SI
LP_VM55
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ernie-Ball-Super-Locks-360809-i1399099.gc anyone know about this straplock?
Col F
If you are going to change the buttons, then just get the Schallers (also sold in Fender branded packages). They are extremely reliable, unobtrusive and relatively inexpensive as well. They are of excellent quality.
MikeRom
You didn't mention what music you like to play or if you gig regularly or play mostly at home. Will help point you in a more specific amp direction. Personally I avoid solid state amps like the plague, but that's just me.

[/quote'] I like to play a wide variety of music from The Beatles to Black Label Society. Knowing that, i guess my preference would be an amp that is versatile. I want an amp that can do clean, crunch, and overdrive/distortion, and more...Plus, I plan on using a wah-wah and talk box on it so i want that can handle effect pedals too... Thundergod
When I read the thread title I thought "goddamnit! this guy is trying to install some straplocks to his amp...!" Hell of a way to transport your full stack using public transport.
