Homz Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93ubRaUm2J0 Page, Beck, and Clapton "Stairway to Heaven"
eightiesbaby80 Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Truth is good. Blow by blow is better though Haha, but my favorite song from him is this http://fontana.edgeboss.net/wmedia/fontana/jeffbeck/cause_weve_ended_as_lovers.wax "Cause We've Ended as Lovers." This one is off that live album I was telling you guys about
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Truth is good. Blow by blow is better though ehh i dont know about that
fingers galore Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I saw Jeff Beck live in 1990. It was on the Guitar Shop album tour. He was brilliant! Unbelievable tone and feel.
SRV-Zeppelin Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Well, if he's good enough to be Slash's idol, I suppose he's good enough to be mine...
djroge1 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I like his tone better when he played an LP, but I stand in awe for how he uses the whammy bar.
Cruznolfart Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I can remember, sort of, way back in the last century, about 1969, in Germany with the US Army, a buncha damn stoners sitting around somewhere out of the way, listening to Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart, Ron Woods and Nicky Hopkins, never realizing what heights they would each achieve, just diggin' the tunes. It was great.
Todd Wilson Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 When I finally picked up Truth, it floored me like no other album ever has! I want to be able to play Greensleeves like he does on it.
Todd Wilson Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I like his tone better when he played an LP' date=' but I stand in awe for how he uses the whammy bar. [/quote'] I'll ditto that! I've never liked the Strat sound. Clapton's best stuff in my opinion was when he was using the SG and ES 335, other players as well who switched from Gibson's to Strats fell pray to the same thing in my opinion, they sounded better when they were playing the LP, or other Gibsons. Do I sound like a Gibson snob? Anyway, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Hendrix are the only two, that to me have achieved great tone out of a strat. The rest sound too thin and tinny. I guess that's how good you have to be to make them sound good......i.e., a waste of money for me.
L5Larry Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 In the 70's I had a friend who's sister worked for a big concert promoter here in St. Louis. That usually got me tickets within the first 6 rows of any concert I wanted to see, and being a photography buff at the time, I used the access to shoot a bunch of great artists. One was Jeff Beck on the "Wired" tour. He seemed to pretty much play the entire "Blow By Blow" and "Wired" albums that night if I remember correctly. Jan Hammer was with him on this tour and I think the violin player was Jerry Goodman. The rest of the band were probably people of note, but I don't know or remember who they were. I found my prints, but I can't find the one strip of negatives with the best shots on it. I probably sent that strip out for blow- ups, and it got separated from the rest. It's in one of my photo boxes I'm sure, but for now, here's the best shot I can offer. Jeff Beck February 18, 1977

Thermionik Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 . Big fan - he's the guy who showed me NOT to use a pick. I also like that he takes the guitar to sonic places guitars don't usually go. .
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I also like that he takes the guitar to sonic places guitars don't usually go. plus one his phrasing, and his weaving in between of major and minor scales is so unique, i love it
surfpup Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Not such a fan of the recent stuff, but Truth will never leave my iPod (I have the vinyl too). One of the best albums ever. Such a great player - one you can immediately recognize.
Thermionik Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 surfpup - that is very cool..... When i listen to the newer stuff it doesn't sit comfortably at first. It challenges and even grates. But i persevere because it is him, and it grows without fail every hearing until i am digging it as much as the older stuff. Same with a lot of Zappa - first hearing you think self indulgence, but time reveals more every listening. Persevere with it, the reward will eventually come. It is the antithesis of 'pop', which is instant gratification followed by rapid boredom.
