bonzoboy
Today is the 70th birthday of the man who single handedly changed the way that guitar was to be played forever and who also changed my whole approach to playing.Jimi Hendrix was and still is a huge influence on my playing. The first time that I heard his first album I decided that my approach to guitar playing was going to change completely and I sequestered myself in my music room for over 10 hours a day most days and at least 5-6 hours other days.I lost all the guys I started playing guitar with in my dust due to Jimi inspiring me to become totally engrossed in the learning process and in bettering my playing.Somewhere along the way he also showed me where to find the conduit that links my soul to my hands.Happy 70th Jimi and thankyou from the bottom of my heart. Seconded (if I may). Could not agree more. As he recedes from us in time the detail of his life and achievements become obscured by the legend and the cliches, but like you I was there and I remember. And this, his exposure to the world and the consequent fame, happened in only 4 years. I still try to distinguish between what the artist put out in his lifetime (even though he didn't particularly want to release 'Band of Gypsys' but they had to pay off Ed Chalpin) and the flood of posthumous out-takes, jams and rehearsals which keep being issued....he would never have authorised any of them. Best wishes!
Buxom
Ahhh, yes, my mom and I listened to a radio interview with Leon this morning.
bonzoboy
I recently bought Leon's book but I haven't started to read it yet.It would be interesting to see his take on what Janie hendrix is doing at the controls of Jimi's legacy, especially where she's not related to him in the least and that he only met her a handful of times at the very most.Jimi couldn't even rember her name in his last phone call home, yet she says that she and her "big Brother" did wonderful things together-give me a break, she hasn't given one red cent to Jimi's real blood siblings,Leon,Joseph,Pamela and Kathy Ira.I'm sure that if Jimi had've thought for one minute that Janie would end up with total control with his fortune and legacy,he would've made very sure that someone who was very close to him and would best honor his wishes, would be left to run things.I'm also sure that Jimi would've been horrified and outraged to find out that his 4 actual siblings were living at or near poverty or institutionalized, while Janie lives in ostentacious excess. BTW: I purposely printed the Hendrix after Janie in lower case because she's not a true Hendrix and is actually a blight on the proud family's name. kaleb
Happy birthday! I'm sure he's having a killer blues jam up there with Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore, or having a shred session with Dimebag. RIP!
