AXE® Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 First, what model? Second, with out a picture, your guitar is more or less a unicorn that doesn't actually exist.

rocketman Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 If it's a Standard then it's a AA finish. It's all subjective. I've seen AA tops Standards that have the same (more or less) as my AAA top Premium Plus.

jeffdgibson Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 hey guys i am still curious on what the a aa aaa aaaa top means is it a quality?, wood ply, finish, color kind of thing and what might be the differance between a standard and premium plus and how can you tell the difference between the two? these guitars say nothing but a serial number on it. i did some reading and the pearl inlay on the gibson logo comes on a standard but not on a studio the studio has a laminant gibson logo. any ideas? thanx

They are all high quality maple tops. The only difference is the amount of figure in the top. Here's probably more information than you'll need, but since you asked...
jeffdgibson Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 thanx rocketman i read a little bit it is long i will read later thanx again
Ras El Hanout Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Hey guys, i just bought a 2007 LP Standard, mint used, and it has the most amazing tiger eye figured wood top, but something like a tobacco burst too, and the color of the burst blends nicely with the mahogany? back/body. i'm just starting to try to find out more about this. I went apeshit in 2008 and bought an ES-339 Figured Top/Custom Shop, Blues King, J-45 Red Spruce Top Custom acoustic, an Ash American Deluxe Strat, a Standard Tele, but i FINALLY got a Standard Les Paul. Purchased a Black Studio LP four years ago which is sublime, but this new one is stunningly beautiful.
deepblue Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Heres a pic of my R9 while I had her apart for cleaning. I e-mailed Gibson with the same question and sent along the picture as well. They said this is a AAA top. I thought perhaps AAAA...but nope.
