flatbaroque
This was an iconic "collectors" guitar store in Sydney- for 30 years. The place where visiting celebrity guitarists go to spend a lazing $30K on some vintage Strat or LP.Also Lots of high end martins and gibson acoustics for ridiculous money. Anyway out of the blue last week liquidators came in. Took all stock and boarded it up. 40% of stuff was on consignment...now there is a huge sheet fight for owners to recover their gits. Also claims that over the last year gits on consignment have been sold and owners not advised. Messy all round. You can get an idea of the stock from this old link.It pans around. https://www.google.com.au/maps?layer=c&z=17&sll=-33.887572999999996,151.170582&cid=3573969008373397471&panoid=s4pg8_uLlzejKp26OaxP9Q&cbp=13,270.8907672204847,,0,0&q=jacksons+rare+guitars&sa=X&ei=JBa3UKWBPcbYigfv7IBQ&ved=0CIUBENoUKAAwAw
Mojorule
So essentially what you're saying is that it is not just the instruments in this case that are gits? Shame. They did some nice videos of their stock, I believe.
EuroAussie
Holy Shite. I never visited their store but I did visit their website quite a few times and marvelled at their overpriced selection of tasty vintage guitars. On a more positive note a similar guitar shop opened up in Adelaide recently, with a very similar range of tasty vintage guitars. Ill be back in Oz in two weeks for Xmas and New Year and will check it out, like this vintage Bird for example ... http://www.twangcentral.com.au/ Check out the 'vintage vault' section of the acoustic guitars. Some very tasty guitars like a 64' Bird, and 52' SJ.

BluesKing777
Thanks for the info, FB! I read their website in my rounds every day, and the last week it has been saying: "Closed For Maintenance". Guess they maintained it out of existence. Good riddance to some more crooks that have regularly charged OVER double and sometime FOUR times what a guitar is worth....shame that we can't window shop for their acoustics, though. The only people that get fleeced more than Australian Guitarists are, you guessed it, the English Guitarist! 10 years ago almost, I was on a Sydney trip and after doing the Ferries/Railway/Bondi/Manly/Paramatta/Shire? in the first two days with the camera blocked up - headed for Annandale, the home of a whole row of guitar shops. Main target was Jackson's Rare Guitars to spot Dobros and Nationals - my wishlist at the time. Arrived by bus after having an argument with the Bus Driver who I specifically asked to tell me when I arrived at the Annandale Strip - Guitar Central - and he purposely ignored me and I spotted the shop as we went speeding past. Arrived at the doors of Jacksons in a lather after footing it back about 2 miles to find they were renovating the shop and everything was covered up/in storage/ out the back. Had a very rude salesman hand a few low rent instruments and then I left in a touch of a grump and went to the other shops in Annandale and then back to the hotel in town.... Jacksons missed out on approximately $AUS 5000! And EA, why would you want to go to TwangCentral in ole Adelaide and get fleeced 3 times the price you pay importing from the US? BluesKIng777. (Not supporting the local thieves anymore - I have though!)

BluesKing777
Oh, no intention to buy BK, but what a great way to spend a sunny, summer afternoon while on holidays back home .. :-) Every time I have been to Adelaide for a sunny, summer afternoon it has been hot as Hades itself - had our own moments where we reached 110 degrees in Victoria, Australia today, but we get a cold change but Adelaide keeps on keeping on. I would be very, very careful of the 64 Hummingbird with possibly your name on it, at TwangCentral! (Are you really going in a shop called that?) BluesKing777. Seems like it, its only been around for a while, but what a great selection. But I could not imagine another HB given Ive already got two of em, one a vintage anyway. I did get a chance to play a few mid 60's Birds in Denmark Street in London, and frankly the tone of my HB TV is very reminiscent to those anyway, they just have a bit more nectar due to being banged around for an extra 40 years. My next Gibby purchase next year will most likely be a small body, Keb Mo or LG-2 or something like that. I will wait until I have the next international work conference and wait to snap one up cheap as pie from the US like I did in the last two years with the J-150 and AJ. zombywoof
Ya'll just make me feel lucky. I don't think I have ever gone out with the intention of buying a guitar. They just kinda showed up. Usually I get a call from somebody I know or the owner of some small shop somewhere. Right now I am waiting on a 1920s Oscar Schmidt Stella that is rumored to be available and if lucky will make an appearance in the next week or so. ParlourMan
That happened here a few years back. I know a guy who had dropped off his 1961 Les Paul Custom at a well known shop for some repairs. For whatever reason though the place folded and eveything in it seized. He did finally get the chance to retrieve his guitar but all he found was the body. All the hardware and electronics were missing. Surely the fact that you can legally prove the guitar is yours removes it from any inclusion of asset seizure in such a case? Not sure I'd accept that kind of misfortune too easily. Not sure I'd accept that kind of misfortune too easily. You're right, but it's not always as easy as it should be. Most of us don't document our ownership in a way that protects us adequately in such a situation, particularly if the guitar has been taken apart for repair: are your pups that set of '61 PAF's worth $6K, or the set of identical modern repros next to them on the bench worth $200? stein
What I am getting from this, is he who goes to court first, wins. The trend that seems to be getting worse is that the courts are not interested in what is fair or right or what SHOULD be legal, but just there to grant the petitioner permission to whoever may wish to do so. They do not take into account who is not there, who is aware to BE there, or who may be treated unjustly by the action of the petitioner.
