clance Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I've always wanted to add a third pickup for some reason to my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top. I've just always been too worried about screwing up my routing and ruining the guitar. Now I've been offered to straight trade a SG special Faded in worn cherry for the Epi and one of my amplifiers in a few months, and I'm wondering what the guitar is like without the pickguard. Im sure ive seen 3-pickup models out there, so do the regular models have a large enough rout under the pickguard to accomodate a third pickup? I'm hoping it would just be a case of ordering a new pickguard from somewhere for the other model SG and buying my new pickup. Anyone have pictures or info on the 3 pickup models? It would be really appreciated.
BIGBENDS Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I wouldn't. Save your money and your time. With the extra time you can earn some money and save up for the 3 pickup guitar of your dreams. If you really love tinkering with guitars, go to luthier school and learn how to build those bad boys from scratch. The time you lose modifying your guitar is precious. You could be practicing and learning something new or earning some money for your next guitar. IMO 3 pickups are overrated.
