j45nick
Have the boys finally reached the top of that Stairway? Led Zeppelin's extraordinary contributions to music were recognized at the White House and the Kennedy Center honors ceremony yesterday. The evening concluded with a concert featuring a number of big names covering Led Zep songs, including the Wilson Sisters "Stairway to Heaven" finale. Still waiting for that to show up on youtube. Plant and Page at the White House: Jones, Plant, and Page at the Kennedy Center later:

ParlourMan
They must be fairly stressed out lately with the retrospective action on all the "rock n roll" that went on back in the day... in light of the stuff like Jimmy Saville, with them being privy to Bonham's alleged antics with some seafood and a 14 year old and whatnot.... Elvis must be thanking his lucky stars he's dead. When you look at it, an awful lot of these geezers with quirky pastimes tend to end up hobnobbing with the elite... I posted that picture in large part because of the disembodied head floating in space. Thought it made the image a little Dali-esque and even more appropriate.... Never was much of a Led Zeppelin fan, but I've been a Page fan since the Yardbirds days. Three pretty decent guitarists (Beck, Clapton, Page) came out of that particular group, and it certainly wasn't a Boy Band!
jedzep
Thanks Nick. I can now put the 75W light bulbs back in my bath mirror fixtures and feel OK again. For a while, anyway. I know Plant is boring the crap out of everyone putting that whiny voice next to Alison Kraus' beautiful singing, but does anyone know if (or what) Page is still playing/producing. He really seems to have disappeared.

Three pretty decent guitarists (Beck, Clapton, Page) came out of that particular group, and it certainly wasn't a Boy Band! How true. Grew up on Clapton/Beck Yardbirds, & still love it (Led Zepplin, not so much - in fact, not at all). Clapton's break on "I Ain't Got You" was like a bolt of lightening, and Beck's work was simply amazing. Great stuff.

BluesKing777
Congratulations to the Zep! They were everywhere for a while there when I was an early teen, and BK777 and a few dorky school friends went to see them at a small stadium show. I was told by one of these dorks that Robert Plant's voice was so loud that he didn't use a mic! Of course I believed him! When the band came on and of course RP had a mic, I turned to my friend to inquire and was told that RP had a sore throat..... BluesKing777. Versatile
Thanks again for a great post...!! Timely to review the phenomenon that was Led Zep... Coincidentally I was listening to all the CD's at this time Finding extra depth and twiddly bits previously missed on umpteenth prior listenings... Marvelling at the taste and subtlety of Page's arrangements and production The synergy of such high intelligence and musicality(perhaps often under-stated in the general hype) The value of session playing in honing one's skills to the highest level The huge contribution made by JPJ(sensible bloke...kept his wife and sanity ) Love the folk acoustic and country allusions... Thankyou Yardbirds et al... V
