NGD Gibson J45 True Vintage finally home...

hi,

i bought a J45 true vintage on Ebay, it looked in great shape, from 2011, and half the price of a new one... only because the original owner changed for a martin... and there was a lrbaggs output jack installed.

anyway, i don't live in the US, i took the risk to buy blinded...

it tooks 2 week to come to my country..

when i opened the case: the smell of a good gibson, i'm always surprised by the new gibson smell..

the guitar is in great shape...

it's surprinsly light, the case is way heavier than the guitar... good point...

i tuned it immediatly... no ping at the nut or the saddle... great...

smooth tuners... great...

the action is a litle on the high side.. and the nut is also cut a bit high...

no problem i know how to setup a guitar...

my next job:

  •
  • cut down the nut...
  • chek how much i need to lower the saddle..
  • remove the strings..
  • remove the VOS gunk.. i hate this hazy look...
  • lower the saddle...
  • install my lrbaggs M1
  • get some good martin .12
  • and start some good old rolling stones acoustic songs...

Ben

ps: pix will be posted in a couple of days...

Sounds like another J-45 found a good home ! Interesting that you would mention the smell of a Gibson - somebody with a lab should analyze and synthesize, and start selling little guitar case potpori (air fresheners). You are going to have a wonderful time with that J-45 !

Surprisingly enough we've had people request this! [biggrin]

Sweep the floor. Package the sawdust in a felt Gibson guitar cloth, and include it with each new J-45 sold. There, was that so hard? You can send the first one to Strat71 for sparking the idea, and the royalty checks? - I'm willing to spit 'em with ya [biggrin]

Ben,

Congratulations on joining the J-45 club!

How do you intend to approach "removing the VOS gunk"? (This is a topic that comes up from time to time.)

Not too surprising, really. The aroma that comes out of my L-OO Legend case when you open it is powerful and evocative. Sadly, it's slowy going away over time...

Thanks guys for replies...

ok, i spent the morning, setting up my new 45TV...

as i said, lowered the nut grooves to be more confortable...

lowered the saddle, about 2mm, the low string is not 2.5mm and the high string is 1.5mm..

wayyyy better action... was about 3.5mm on the low...

for the VOS i used some virtuoso cleaner then virtuoso polish... worked great... the wood is now visible under the finish...

here's a few pix as promissed....

Ben
