Hey all! Just stumbled on this great hour-long BBC documentary.....If you have the time. It means a lot to me ,as I grew up with this history in my veins.I know a lot of the Forum members are from other countries, and have not been exposed to this era of the southern USA.

Just a well done documentary by the BBC. I learned a lot.... and I lived through it and 'revered' the music and the times[thumbup]

Hope some are touched...

If you never got to see the original Allman Bros. live you missed out on something the world will never see again. They were the best live band in America. With all the mindless noodlin' goin' on, these guys never wasted a note.

Cool documentary and I really enjoyed it. More of the story of Capricorn Records.

But how about this guy from the great state of Mississippi.

Thanks Rod

Was only about the 2 bands..!

With so much good stuff around back then I never really got to dig on the Allman Bros. but after seeing this I think I need to get the first few records/cds.

That Duane Allman was a real great.

In the background at aprox 8 min this tune was playing.. my wife says that sounds beautifull, and this is the one.

I love it, check it out.

This should a been all over the radio together with all the other golden sh#it played in 69-70'. (Radio play was at its best)

Glad some of you are liking it! Merseybeat....glad that your wife and you found a 'common ground' song out of it. It primarily featured the two bands but touched on others. Marshall Tucker Band was a huge influence on me. A lot of the interview stuff was told by Doug Gray, the lead vocalist for MTB. I wish they had featured more of the band. The Caldwell brothers, played together like they joined at the hips....amazing stuff!

I know a lot of folks 'revere' the Gratefull Dead as a jam band, but the ABB will always grab my soul and run with it.

seen the documentary , interesting stuff .

as you say the allman brothers are quite simply one of the tightest bands ever when at their best ... even folk who aren't into southern rock would have to be amazed at the live at fillmore cd's ... a must have for anyone who has even looked at a guitar.

the marshall tucker band isnt mentioned much in the UK and they have slipped by me , apart from the wonderful 'cant you see' which i first heard on the blow soundtrack...

reading reviews of their albums makes me wanna check them out ... i especially like the sound of the the flute being apparently involved ... what album should be my first purchase ?

Hey BBG, Glad that you got to check it out [thumbup] As far as the MTB albums, i really like their 2nd and 3rd from 1974....Where We All Belong and A New Life. These pretty much sum up what they were about. Also another worthwhile purchase is a DVD/2CD set called Carolina Dreams Tour '77 ....Has footage from a show at a small club in New Jersey that is just awesome and magical to watch...
