rossington88
Hey Everyone, It's been a long while since I've been on here... I have a question about the old abbreviations (SVT = Stereo VariTone, etc. etc.). What do other abbreviations mean? Such as: TD, TV, TDN, and so on. Also: I am about to 'convert' my 2006 ES-335 Dot Reissue to a 1950's-style ES (Original/Vintage 1950's wiring, boutique PAF's, CTS pots, CTS Rotary for a Gibson-style varitone with original components and a black rotary dial [only from 1959 if I'm not mistaken], long guard and proper knobs). Am I creating a vintage-style 1959 ES-345 OR, because I still will have the dot inlay, is it considered a 1959 ES-335 with one of those funky abbreviations? Pictures will follow after the transformation . Thanks, guys. You've always been a great help in the past -Especially since I got my schematics and values from you!! JimR56
Hey Everyone, It's been a long while since I've been on here... I have a question about the old abbreviations (SVT = Stereo VariTone, etc. etc.). What do other abbreviations mean? Such as: TD, TV, TDN, and so on. TDSV = Thin (body), Double (pickups), Stereo, Varitone. An "N" indicates a Natural finish. It will be considered a modified 2006 ES-335 Dot Reissue, because that's what it will be. If you ever sell it, you shouldn't call it anything other than a modified 2006 ES-335 Dot Reissue. If you want to call it something else while you own it, I guess you could go with ES-335TD-V (throw an "N" in there if it's blonde).
rossington88
Hey, Jim. Thanks for the information!! Things make a lot more sense now. And no worries about the selling part; If I ever did decide to sell my baby, I would disclose all the extensive modifications done. Thanks again!! JimR56
No problem. I forgot to mention that "C" is used to designate a cherry finish on Gibson semi-hollows (it's been used for years to designate "cutaway" on many archtop models).
