Hey I am getting a 2011 gibson sg special faded tomorrow I have read about them an played a few but I was wondering what long time players think of them. My other question is will the finish ware out due to how it was made (I like the old beat up look).

I've had mine about 5 years now and its as good as the day I bought it. I do always wash my hands before I play and I think that helps to preserve the hardware and finish.

I really like the SG Special Faded because...

-the wood grain looks very nice through a thin nitro finish

-the thin nitro, I think, gives more bite and attack to the tone

-I prefer the feel of a neck without binding

-the 490T bridge pickup has a lot up clarity and bite with a mids boost. I think it gives a more vintage sounding tone than the 498T but it also takes gain from amp or effects very well too

Generally speaking, all SGs are great because of their light weight, total upper fret access, great sustain, cutting attack and very fast necks.

I think you've made a good choice [thumbup]

Alan -

You're absolutely right. Washing your hands before you play is such a simple but effective way to preserve your strings, finish, hardware, etc.

And thanks for that link on changing your strings. I just resolved a problem I always have.

No problem, Bashea. It's a good find - I'd urge anybody within restringing or tuning problems to click on that link and bookmark it.
