alongfortheride
Can anyone help me identify this guitar? I believe it is a Gibson Traditional in worn cherry or cherry that has been slightly modded. The closest guitar I have found is the new 2012 Les Paul Traditional Mahogany Satin Cherry. Thanks for the help!
btoth76
Hello! No way it's a Traditional! This one is a mid-'70s Les Paul. At that time "Traditional" did not exist. You can see from the headstock shape and angle, that's a Norlin-era (1968-1986) guitar. I would say it's a Standard (then it's a post-'75 model) or a converted Deluxe. Cheers... stein
That guitar looks like a 70's one to me...heavily modded, of corse.
pippy
As has been said, it's from the Norlin-era and because of the wide peghead it's after late '69. Bence is right in that it's either a Standard or else a DeLuxe which has been converted to full-size humbuckers - very possibly DiMarzios - and if the p'ups ARE DiMarzio my guess is that they are Dual Sounds which would explain the extra toggles; one of which is in place of the neck p-up tone control. The second toggle has needed an extra hole drilled. Dual Sounds had a 4-cable coil-tap wiring system. P.
alongfortheride
Thanks for the feedback guys! Answered a lot of questions. Now just to find a mid 70s Les paul in that color.... :) This guitar ever since I have set site on it has been my dream guitar.
pippy
Your easiest and most affordable route would be to buy a late '70s Standard in Cherry. I'm pretty sure the guitar pictured is of this age and type. Buying an initially less-expensive DeLuxe and having it re-routed would probably end up costing more in the long run. Late '70s Standards shouldn't be that expensive to buy but avoid any ad. that starts with the words 'Genuine Vintage...'. IMXthose words can be replaced with 'Overpriced'... Unless you are an enthusiast for the wider p'head any Cherry Standard could be made to look (and, in all probability, sound) exactly the same as this one for not too much financial outlay. Good Luck Hunting. P.
alongfortheride
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Metallic-Candy-Apple-Red-Limited-Edition-Shaw-Pups-/271118823472?pt=Guitar&hash=item3f1ff0f030 ^^Something like this only a few years older? About the PUPs routing, I could most likely do it myself. I would have to drill the extra hole for the second mini switch anyway.

Would this be the correct color and what the guitar I showed you before would have looked like before mods?
pippy
Pretty much. It even has the 'Boo-Boo Rings' which, as it happens, are much sought after by a fellow forumite. Buy it; change it to full-buckers; pass-on the rings and we've two happier members... P.
