johnnyraff
I bought a new sg limited and i was wondering how you can change the caps. It looks like they wire everything directly to a board unlike older models. Would that mean that i have to pull all of the electronics out to do anything? THAT is the one thing about new Gibby's I Cannot stand, I say all new pots caps and switch and wire it up old school. The IC board is nothing more than saving labor on their end. call me crazy..... Dallastx
They make kits that I have seen posted here. I'm pretty happy with the tone from mine. I'm gonna leave it alone. I have modded the hell out of some of my other guitars though.. D
johnnyraff
Im happy with the overall tone with mine, but i just cant leave well enough alone. i hate those little caps they use. I really like the orange drop caps for some reason.

badbluesplayer
You can change the caps out by snipping them off while leaving as much of the old leads on the board as possible. Then you can just solder some new caps to the old leads. Works fine.

The IC board is nothing more than saving labor on their end. call me crazy..... It's one thing about the cheaper Gibbies, the use of that circuit board. I bought four SG's in the last two years and that board was in only one of them. Surprisingly, that one still sounds great.
sgplayers
I totally removed the board from my special and put burst buckers coil taps and blue caps its a lot easier to do if you can find an old Gibson with a broken neck someone is getting rid of. its really easy if you have some experience soldering.
