sycephant
What is it about the Gibson Les Pauls that makes us want every single model, color, reissue, VOS and year? It's something that started with me at about age 12(I'm 26 now). I saw the Aerosmith video for Cryin' and although my first thoughts concerned Alicia Silverstone, my second went right after Joe Perry's Ebony Standard. Just so cool! From there I grew with everything I could find Aerosmith. And then Zeppelin. And so on. I became obsessed with Les Pauls. I got a Les Paul advertisement with Slash on the front of it....but on the back were that year's models. That's what I put on my wall. I memorized them. From the Special to the Standard to the Studio Lite. Now I have the perfect LP for me...the BFG. I love everything about it and no matter what any of you say....it's a kickass guitar. Like most of you say, some guitars just have it...and this one does. My wife bought it for me for Christmas last year. She had my best friend find me one and he found it on Ebay. It didn't show up in time for Christmas because the seller was a jerk(trying not to curse). She was devastated and my buddy even more so. She told me what she got me and I was thrilled. I didn't care it wasn't there for Christmas, the fact she bought it for me was just amazing. A few days later it showed up and the electronics were shot....tried to ***** to Ebay but no help there. I took it to my local luthier and he rewired the killswitch correctly and it's been 100% ever since. A Gibson Les Paul is truly a work of art and a players guitar....though not always perfect. That's what makes them great. They're handmade moreso than most so each has it's own personality. This is why I would always say to try each one first before purchasing...I got lucky. My next purchase will be the Ebony Standard that started it all but it won't stop there.....it will never stop. Thank you Gibson for making this icon to be the best of any collection. I bought one kickass LP some 15 years ago or so and I have yet to play another that I liked better.

The explorer kid is worse, he is ungrateful, the other kid is just spoiled.

I read that thread....completely agree. I would have bought the BFG myself but getting it from my wife meant so much more.......if my dad had bought me an LP(Standard at that!) I would be forever in his debt and never had a second thought about another guitar to replace it. My GOD!

uiucjpo
I don't even really like Les Pauls (I'm more of a double cutaway type of guy). I think the necks are too fat, can't reach past the 18th fret without hand cramps, and they're too heavy.... but I'll be darned if I wouldn't give up a leg for an 08 standard!! There really is just something about them.
guitarbob123
whenever i pick-up a les paul they just have that feeling and the neck is amazing i think it just clicks with so many people and is seen as a symbol of rock which makes it so successful
