nash51
I am interested in purchasing a Gibson Les Paul 60s Tribute. I like the looks, the P90s and the price is right. Does anyone have any opinions, good or bad on this guitar? Thanks
Markini
I have one, very nice guitar. Good tone and playability. But.. the guitar needed a thorough set up, including fret filing , polishing and leveling. It has a particularly nice clean sound believe it or not, and of course is really punchy when over driven. Its a keeper.
nash51
Thanks for your reply, do you happen to know if this gtr. is still in production? I usually buy through Zzounds or AMS and neither have the color I am looking for. I was hoping there would be re-stocking of this particular guitar. jmm555
I bought one from Wildwoodguitars.com guitars in Colorado. Looking for a gold one? 60’s tribute - I like mine. Turns out the one I picked was heavy, but had a dark fret bd. I think the heaver in weight gives it a slightly different tone. Not bad or good. I think you can hear it strummed acoustically. Actually I’d like to agree with Greg Koch in the Wildwood video that their all good and seem consistent in quality. Mine didn’t have any rough fret ends on it. An early 2011 model so it’s a rosewood fret bd. Production might have changed to something else in later date models. Yes, I bet if production has not stopped, it will in the future to make way for new models. After this purchase you can get a humbucker one. The P90’s are great, but also great to have other pups too.
valleybiker
I have one of these in the Goldtop and I have to say that it's a great guitar but my expectations of what I'd receive from a company with the reputation of Gibson were far greater than what I received. The set up was horrible, frets were not done, and the assembly wasn't even completed. I had to tighten and set a lot of screws. Yes it's a cheaper model but it's still a $1000 guitar! I've bought Squiers that were set up better. It comes with a quality control checklist that was filled out by hand, I suppose, to let you know the attention to detail that Gibson has...but that guy must have been tired or drunk or something because he checked things off that were crap! Easy fixes, mind you, but it's still a little frustrating to pay that money and get what I got. I called Gibson to let them know and they acted like I was bothering them and that it was my problem...no apology, nothing. He said "You don't like it, send it back to who I bought it from". After finishing their job, it is one of my guitars of choice, though. It sounds great and plays like a dream. I do love the guitar...it was just the experience of what I received out of the box and what I found when I spoke to Gibson on the phone that turned me off. I would recommend buying one but just to have high hopes of receiving that "perfect" guitar that you may be dreaming of. Have some tools ready. charlie brown
Mine... Great guitar! No problems...but, my dealer takes care of those, should there be any, as their normal inspection/setup, routine. CB
jbear
I totally dig mine. I traded for it and I don't know if the previous owner did anything, but it is pretty much perfect as far as the details. I did put Duncan SM3 mini-HB's in it it and they're split. I am pretty big Robben Ford fan and that's the tone I was hoping to get and that's what I got. It's very light compared to other LP's I've played, so it's super comfortable to stand with and very loud unplugged. The only thing I would like to change are the edges of the fretboard which are pretty "sharp." I think I will try to roll them eventually. I was playing out last night and this girl came up during a break and asked me how come my guitar sounded so much better than the other one. I told her it's all in the fingers...but...it wasn't...it's also this guitar. I don't think the mini's hurt either...they have a really unique way of standing out while staying sweet. Markini
I pulled my LP 60s Tribute out of its case Friday night (21st). I had not played it for 6 months. Tuned it and it stayed in tune and it sounded better to me than 6 months ago. I must have played it for 6 hours. I am really addicted to the neck, it has the smoothest neck out of all my electrics, better than my Strat or PRs but mot by much. In fact I am going to play it again this afternoon. The cleans are superb and the overdrive sound is lush.
