USED 1979 Les Paul Custom, is this a good price?

My local music store is a 1979 Les Paul Custom. The frets look okay, but the gold plating is worn away on the stop bar and the pick up covers are scraped up pretty good.

Not much buckle rash, the finish looks great. Looks like an Ebony fretboard. I don't know which pick ups are in the guitar.

They're asking $1,999.99.

Is this a good price?

I haven't played it yet, figured I'd ask you folks about price before I fall in love with an overpriced guitar!

Regards,

Mark

You can get a brand new Les Paul for less than that. Check out Sweetwater.com

At the same time as I defend the 70's guitars whenever some 20 year old slags them all as no good because there were plenty of excellent Les Pauls back then, I will suggest you buy a new guitar. Vintage guitars in general are way over rated. Anyone with two grand to dump on a guitar is much better off getting their very own new one to hand down to the kidlets some day.

Wisdom in the responses. For $2000 you can get a new Les Paul.

If you must have a custom, go for it -- for $500 less.

Best of luck.
