iPods...

While Apple did "revolutionize" the way the masses enjoy music, when you buy an iPod nowadays you're pretty much paying for a brand name.

I, like alot of people, was won over by ease of use and pure simplicity. I have no desire to try any of the other brands of MP3 plays and never well.

That being said, I couldn't live without mine. It's a constant companion and allows me to carry an enormous amount of music around with me.

However I haven't fell prey to the "gimmick" or "affordable" iPod models, the iPod Classic is still the best in my opinion.

Right now I have the 80GB, which is just about completely full of music (give or take a GB). Have my eye on the 160GB though...need more room...

Being able to carry around 20,000 songs in my pocket makes me feel like a superior person, and has probably added some length to my wang as well.

I wish there was a less enthusiastic option than "AWESOME!!! YA!!!! IPODS RULE!!!" I mean, I like mine all right. It's a fantastic piece of technology, but I wish there was less hype about them, and I can't help but assume that at this point, since they core technology of them hasn't changed in the 7 years they've been out, the price is almost entirely based on the brand Apple and not anything else. I'm also not that much of a gadget guy. ****, my pedal collection is even limited to a wah and a fuzz. Although I have been ogling the new iPod Touch lately, although maybe I'll just cough up the extra for the iPhone. But normally I just don't get excited about techie stuff. Not really my thing.

tl;dr: iPods are all right. they play music, they're easy to use. if Apple/Steve Jobs hadn't invented them someone else would've.

I bought my first in 2003, the 30GB model. I bought several after that cause everyone in the family wanted one. Now we're all iPhone users, so the iPods don't get used as much. As much as I like carrying around 12,000 songs in my pocket, with the 16GB iPhone, I can pack in more than I'm likely to want to hear at any given time from my main collection. I remember this, though, I owned over 600 CDs when I bought the first iPod. I OCD'd ripping every one of them for a week until I had the entire collection on a hard drive on on my iPod. I wanted to see exactly how much space those CDs took up. Now I don't buy CDs, well, almost never. If I can't buy it on iTunes, etc., I don't.

love the Ipod I have several including one I record into now (see pic), I also have the IPhone but still use a T ouch so I don't suck the battery life out of my phone everyday. I listen to the Ipod/Iphone 2-3 hours a day including in the car where I plug it into the dash.

I just got a GoStudio from Belkin as a door prize at a electronics show a few weeks ago so far the sound is mediocre/good but it's fun and easy to do dirty MP3 recording with and a IPOD classic will record for something like 16 hours straight O:)

I think the classic and the touch are the best ones. I bought a shuffle for the price. that was my first ipod. My second Ipod was a 3rd generation nano 'cause i decided i wanted a screen. I again fell in to the price trap and bought the cheap 4GB model. If I had spent the extra $50 to get double the memory I wouldn't be in the market for another one. Also, the screen wasn't big enough to show any movie without cutting the edges off. And that just makes me want another ipod even more. The Classic and the touch are the best.

The moral: Do LOTS of research :-# before you buy an ipod. I lost $230(which would buy an ipod touch)on ipods that i either ran out of memory on or got sick of hitting "skip" trying to find my favorite song on.

We got our first iPod in the house last year when my wife's boss bought her a 30G Classic for her birthday. We pretty nearly filled it with over 500 albums on it.

I bought another Classic this year, an 80G model. I have over 975 albums on it now, plus lots of music videos and a couple games.

My job has me traveling once or twice a month, often to cities with little or no diversions of their own. My iPod is a reliable travel buddy, both for the planes and the hotel rooms. I'm still trying to find a good set of headphones that won't break the bank!

When people tell me how GREAT their ipod sound's I ask them, when was the last time they listened to a live band.

ipod and good sound? Can't happen

For traveling like cvansickle uses it, great. but I would never play an ipod through my Martin Logans

I have a Escient Fireball I use for music distribution and recorded at 129mhz it still sounds like crap, whats an ipod 90?

I'm a sound tech. We like to say' date='

"No highs, no lows, must be Bose."

If I absolutely have to be low profile, I will use ear-buds with mine (there are some aftermarket companies that make FINE ear-buds, they're just gonna cost you big $$$). Apple's stock ear-buds are absolute garbage, gave up on them many years ago. If I'm at home and am able, I use a pair of professional mixing or DJ headphones.

Seriously, it's a compact hands-free device designed to take everywhere. You can only except [i']so[/i] much.

MP3 file format and players are great, but IPods are over priced. My daughter has an older one and is getting a new 8gb one for Christmas while my son is getting the Sony 8gb mp3 player and his cost about $50 less. They both do the same thing so why pay for all the Ipod hype?

I didn't vote, I didn't like any of the choices.

Oh and yeah Bose is not that great either IMHO. No highs and muddy lows... no thanks, I'll stick with JBL or KRK speakers whenever possible.

Yeah, but is your daughter getting the 8GB "touch screen" iPod? If so, THAT'S the reason it was so expensive...the touch screen is a complete gimmick and fad right now IMHO.

No she is getting the nano, not the touch screen - that's what she wanted. But no way... it's waaayyyy too expensive.

Here's what I consider the down side of Ipods, at least as I see it with my kids. They buy or borrow a CD and then copy the one or two "hits" and never even listen to other songs. Not that many of todays bands put out albums where you want to listen to all the songs. But my son would buy some great CD by a classic artist like Beatles, Cream or Allman Bros and then put like 3 songs that he's familiar with into Itunes and never even listen to the rest.

I hate to sound like that old guy, but we used to buy an album, and it was too much trouble to skip through the songs, so you ended up listening to them all. It would turn out that some of the favorite songs were ones that never became radio hits.
