Gillian Welch cover

flatbaroque

Thanks lads..yea threw the harp in as I thought it could be a bit repetitive otherwise....on her version the second guitar really adds spice to the song...and her voice is a lot nicer than mine so she can get away with 15 minutes without a bridge or anything...thought my 6 minutes was about the limit

Hey FB....Best song ever.....Shades of Neil, shades of Springstein, whatever!!!!!! Shades of YOU, my brother! You are a 'heart-felt' monster in the lyric and vocal category....Yer playing is an added BONUS...[thumbup]

Its the first time that I have heard the song......I though it was one of yours! As far as I'm concerned....YOU own it!....I know???? Where are the 'royalties'...[lol]

Merry Christmas or Holidays .....I enjoyed it!

Thanks Rod, Jannus and BBG, really appreciate those kind pre Christmas wishes.

Always liked the"strange" lyrics of that one.It reminds me of something David Lynch might write - a sort of Twin Peaks song. There's a reality running through the weirdness.

Gillian Welch actually did a course on lyric writing at Berkley music college.I've got a "Writing Better Lyrics" book by a feller that was her teacher...and it contains some of her class exercises...you can see the genesis of this song in some of the free association writing she did there.

Cheers

BBG...."Writing Better Lyrics" by Pat Pattison.

There was stuff I was doing unconsciously that he showed why it worked ...or not. It's full of ideas to lead into new directions. Highly recommended. It's on Amazon, i'm sure it won't be more than $20.

Some great stuff on all the subtle ways to rhyme..often an exact rhyme won't be the best way to go...it's a very practical..non airy fairy book.

Cheers mate..hope it's not too chilly in Belfast....bloody hot here but i'm on holidays so that's just fine by me!
