JamGuy
I've decided that I'd really like a "real" Gibson SG... so, I'm selling off some of my guitars to fund the purchase, including my Epi SG. I really like the new Gibson SG standards, which seem pretty much like the '61 reissues. Anyone have a 2013 yet and want to chime in? They look great. I'm not sold on a color yet... either cherry or natural burst. Anyhow... I just need to sell some guitars now... I may try the classifieds on here or use craigslist... I can't take the Paypal/ebay hit with fees and still afford the SG.
Guest EastEnder
Hello, JamGuy. My son is selling his 2013 model standard... http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/member-classifieds/232383-fs-gibson-2013-model-sg-heritage-cherry.html It's virtually identical to my 2005 '61 reissue except for the smaller headstock. The neck is the really skinny early sixties, but my son prefers something slightly beefier. Hence the sale (he bought it sight unseen). Still got all the protective plastic -- virtually a new guitar. Anyway, head on over there and take a look. Cheers. EE

JamGuy
I'm going to Wildwood Guitar tomorrow to test drive the Derek Trucks, 61 Reissue, and the 2013 Std... what a treat! It'll boil down to whatever neck I like the feel of the best. I live in Oregon but my girlfriend's family lives about 30 from Louisville, CO where Wildwood is located... I usually have to resort to drooling over their web page but seeing how we're here visiting for Christmas I can't miss a chance to check out the shop... they're nice folks. Last time I was here they hooked me up with a free t-shirt... a small investment on their part given the impending probable guitar purchase LOL! JamGuy
Decided on the Derek Trucks... plays, sounds, and looks killer! Here's a pic of the one I ended up with. It's going to ship after I'm home from vacation so I'll have to do with drooling over the picture til then!
VikingBlues
Nice choice of SG there. ... maybe any SG is a good choice of course! Just sold 2 guitars last month to help fund a real SG so I know what you mean about SG fever. Enjoy the SG when it comes . hope the time doesn't drag too badly till it does. JamGuy
Well, the "old" guitars are for sale on ebay (an Epi G400 SG and two newer Ibanez artist-style guitars) and the new SG is scheduled to arrive here thursday... I'm very excited. I did have a pickguard question... if I did want to add a 61 style pickguard where could I find one with authentic specs that would fit this guitar... Gibson parts are much harder to come by than Fender parts and I just don't seem to be able to locate one... any suggestions?
JamGuy
Think I found one but now I'm not sure I want to cover up the beautiful top... I might hold off.
JamGuy
HOLY SMOKES! I was expecting a nice guitar but she arrived today and all I can say is WOW! What a player... at first I thought the action seemed a bit stiff, not high, but just not what I'd call buttery. After playing it for a few hours it just feels fantastic... kind of a new neck shape for me and the flatter radius (than my Fenders) feels different but good. The neck doesn't feel sticky like nitro finishes sometimes do and I really like the pickups, my first guitar with '57's. All in all, a very cool guitar that is well worth the price of unloading a few Ibanez and an Epiphone g400 to swing it. I've always wanted a "real" SG and man oh man, this one's a keeper! I was playing it through my Fender Super Champ X2 combo and it sounds great... I'll have to get some pics and a video up soon.
bobouz
Congrats, and it looks great without the pickguard.

JamGuy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZvGDXGT9QA I have to say, I'm leaning away from the P/G the more I think about it... it's such a beautiful guitar I hate to cover any of it up with black plastic. I may order one for down the road, should the area where it would be gets scratched up, then I'd have one to cover it. As far as the video, it's pretty spacey... certainly not representative of all this guitar can do. It's been awesome for strumming rhythm and sounds great clean too. I just got a new delay pedal (Earthquaker Disaster Transport) so that the delay effect. Then a Keeley mod MT-2 and a Line 6 M5 set to Phase (basically a MXR tone)... The M5 has been awesome but I haven't been taking advantage of many of the settings because I'm always using a delay preset so it's nice to have a delay pedal for this rig now. Anyhow, enjoy spacing out! B)
