I apologize in advance to anyone it may offend, just honest feelings from an honest band. laid back and Southern, like me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg81vGuZx7k Happy Holidays All !!
Aster1 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Great song and is on my Christmas music playlist for sure. Mine is Silent Night. Favorite singer and version is Sergio Franchi. Very Traditional, very much with, "tis the reason for the season" message. And I don't apologize for anyone that would be offended. None given on my part, but there was only one reason Christmas was started as a holiday! Morphed into others thru the years. Merry Christmas to ya all!! Aster

ChanMan Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Merry Christmas Eve Eve! I think this is one of my favorites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCabI3MdV9g
milod Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 This is a good enough rendition... But I guess it shows my age more than anything... BTW, folks on this area of the forum may be interested that Bender just got a great present this year - his wife recovering well the last I've heard - from major surgery. m
bonzoboy Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 The Irish singers Celtic Woman-led by Chloe Agnew, does a version of "Oh Holy Night" that is simply amazing in its reverence and beauty.Their voices are truly angelic in this song and Chloe sounds especially incredible and when she hits the highest note twice near the end anyone who appreciates a fabulous voice would be sure to get goosebumps. For those who aren't familiar with Celtic Woman, they are a group of 5 incredibly beautiful young Irish women.4 of them sing while the 5th plays violin like only a true virtuoso could. They are extremely popular here in Newfoundland-we have a very strong Irish culture here-and Europe. If you are looking for a fabulous Christmas Carol recording then this is the one for you. There are about 16 or so carols consisting of old standards plus obscure Celtic ones. The Coventry Carol is one of my favourites too and it was written in medieval times but is timeless in its beauty.John Denver does a great version of it on his Rocky Mountain Christmas album.I have a recording by the Tallis Scholars that is great too. There are many great choral representations of this song. John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (the war is over)" is one of my all time Christmas songs although for years it was too painful to listen to for me because John was murdered so close to Christmas. When I listen to it now I just get a poignant feeling come over me-it certainly was one of the best songs that John ever wrote.
