bigneil
The only way to get any closer to identifying them IMO, would be to take a measurement of dc resistance. All the gibby pickups seem to have very consistent measurements for each pickup that they make. .. There is a chart somewhere, maybe in the information thread. sjtalon
his resistance readings are on the TDPRI thread: >The neck PU reads 7.97 ohm and the bridge 13.39 ohm< kind of confusing with the neck, but the bridge appears to be in the range of either a 57 Classic plus or 498T
bigneil
Yea, I agree those resistance readings are most likely heading in the direction of a set of 57 classic and 57 classic plus or a set of 490r and 498t. .. Personally I am leaning to the 57s because the dcr on the neck pickup fits very nicely. Any on else have an opinion?
stein
The back of the pups have the stamped "Gibson USA" logo. I don't know for sure, but at some point, "paf" decals were used again, as in what would be seen on a '57 classic. Is there such a thing as a '57 classic with that stamp? I am not sure, but I think the "paf" decal started again with Burstbuckers replacing the metal stampings, and are used for burstbuckers and '57 classics, while a metal stamp is used for 490/498 types. Jon S.
More than likely a factory installed(2-wire) 490R/498T set.
