I just ran into this on my local Craigslist and I went over to their website to take a look at this 1966 Gibson B-25-12-N for $780.

Not sure I need the tuning headache of a 12-string, but it may be worth taking a drive over there. If any Gibson-board members are in upstate NY (Hudson Valley), maybe we could meet up and check it out.

What does anyone think? Pluses, minuses and all in that's in-between!

Happy Holidays and thanks for all the great info. Truly glad I've found this community.

On the plus side, the guitar might have Norlin-style bracing, which could help keep the top intact!

That is at the least a real interesting way of looking at it - too flippin' funny.

I agree with others on the headstock dating the guitar to probably post 1969.

Not a 66. The pickguard is screwed on and that wasn't a 66 feature.

Actually a 66 B25 12 would have the thinner celluloid tortoise material for the pickguard.

Gibson dropped the celluloid pickguards and went to the thicker styrene pickguards pretty much across the board in 1963. You are right asbout the pickguard not being screwed down - you don't see that until maybe 1968 (althought the Hummingbird did get one in 1967). On the other hand I thought the B-25 12 string lost the trapeze tailpiece and went to a fixed bridge in 1968.

I know Gibson went to the thicker guard in 64 on most models but I'm pretty sure that the B25-12 still retained the thin celluloid tortoise guard, until 67. I believe the same was true for the B45-12 as well. I've owned a couple of the 25's from 66 with the trapeeze tail piece that had the thinner guard.

My knowledge on lots of guitar related things can be questioned but when it comes to Gibson 12's from the 60's I'm pretty solid on my knowledge of their features. I've owned more then enough of them in my 62 years.
