Moving strap button

Recommended Posts

I want to move my strap button from the lower part of the heel/neck area because of the interference it is causing my fretting hand when playing for example the open "E" chord in the 13th fret. My question now is what to do with the screw hole? Not that it's that big of a deal since most people will never see it but I would like to fix it so it is unnoticeable.

A really good luthier familiar who also is familiar with doing really good wood refinishing can fix the spot so its virtually unnoticeable, but I would first locate such a luthier before relocating the strap button, if you're really serious about it. Definitely, do not attempt refinishing the small spot yourself unless you have professional credentials as it won't look correct and will cost you that much more to have it fixed/refinished.

I've seen some refinishing repairs that are as good as new and some that are nightmares.

A good luthier will insert a piece of the same wood into the screw hole with cyanoacrylate glue, sand it flush, dab some color if your neck is stained, a dab of lacquer (nitro if it is a Gibson) and then buff it out with micro mesh until you won't notice it unless you were up close with your glasses on.

Haha comfort. I doubt I'm the only one! It's all in what your used to I guess. I hate to drill a hole in a guitar but that's how I like it

I'm with you, but when I'm buying a used guitar I have no problem if there's one in position 5.
