aerohead
I want to move my strap button from the lower part of the heel/neck area because of the interference it is causing my fretting hand when playing for example the open "E" chord in the 13th fret. My question now is what to do with the screw hole? Not that it's that big of a deal since most people will never see it but I would like to fix it so it is unnoticeable. A really good luthier familiar who also is familiar with doing really good wood refinishing can fix the spot so its virtually unnoticeable, but I would first locate such a luthier before relocating the strap button, if you're really serious about it. Definitely, do not attempt refinishing the small spot yourself unless you have professional credentials as it won't look correct and will cost you that much more to have it fixed/refinished. I've seen some refinishing repairs that are as good as new and some that are nightmares. QM aka Jazzman Jeff
jedzep
I would use sanding dust from a similar hardwood, mix it with urethane or clear Tite-bond and enough stain to color match, then fill. Don't drill another hole, though. the guitar handles better with the strap attached at the head. http://www.ebay.com/...=p2047675.l2557
Motherofpearl
Lol Jedzep that's preference. I don't like the old head strap trick.

Motherofpearl
I haven't added one to that yet. But I usually put them Around number 5 but a little bit further enough so that it doesent interfere with my hand. But I rarely play up there anyway. A good luthier will insert a piece of the same wood into the screw hole with cyanoacrylate glue, sand it flush, dab some color if your neck is stained, a dab of lacquer (nitro if it is a Gibson) and then buff it out with micro mesh until you won't notice it unless you were up close with your glasses on. I hate to drill a hole in a guitar but that's how I like it I'm with you, but when I'm buying a used guitar I have no problem if there's one in position 5. Motherofpearl
Aerohead for the love if god don't do it! Keep it on the neck it's solid. If you put it in a spot like that your asking for trouble. You need backing and the like.
Dave F
I would think position 3 could be fatal if there's no support in that area.
QuestionMark
My guitars, when they have a strap button have it in position 4. Its solid, it never gets in the way, and holds the guitar in a good angle. QM aka Jazzman Jeff
Motherofpearl
Jeff 4 isn't bad at all. Not my personal favorite but it works
