I stumbled upon this and wondered if anyone has any info on this? Has anyone actually played it? I really like the sound of the vox ac30, but Im just not so sure about this.

is that the little headphone amp that plugs straight into the jack? yeah, i've played them. there are 3 versions: AC30, classic rock, and metal. that is the order of preference by the way. the gainer you get on a tiny little thing with headphones the worse it sounds. (and i like heavy amps). truth be told, you can get a pretty fat sound out of them. do they sound awesome? of course not. do they sound 100X better than you thought they would? absolutely. also remember, the headphones you are using probably make more of a difference in the sound quality than the amp itself.

I have the AC30 model I use it when I travel. I would agree it's not a AC30 but it sounds better than I thought it would and it's really small they should have made the jack swivel so you could carry it easier but definately worth the price.

I have never heard one but the reviews I have read of them seem fairly positive...

Anyone here ever used the little Smokey Amp which is inside cigarette packets..... It has a tiny speaker on the front and for a little amp sounds awsome...It can also drive a 4X12 cabinet...

You cannot hope them to sound like the AC30 (damn, even the AC30 doesnt sound like the AC30, but it is a great amp nonetheless). But they do sound nice. Specially for the size and price. If you travel a lot or live with someone else that might get anoyed by you playing through an amp, then they are the solution.

You can take the thing anywere, I have one in my gibson's case all the time.

The only problem is... (here comes the fun part)

If you are buying it for the price, then forget about it. You will need a good pair of headphones to get it to soound good. I use sennheiser headphones I have in the studio... ($250 a piece) and the thing sounds really good (dont think AC30 good, or fender or marshall good, think more like... solid state $400 amp good.). I have used it with lower end headphones ($2 headphones that go inside the ear and work only the first time) and the sound was awful.

If you are buying them because of portability... then think again... better to have one of those Roland microcubes or Vox ad5s... they are 5 watt, solid state, have a ehadphone out, and a little crappy speaker... but... THEY ARE SMALLER THAN A GOOD PAIR OF PRO HEADPHONES.

The imoprtant thing here is headphones. You can buy the amplug for 30 bucks or less and can carry it in your pocket. But headphones can raise the price (and size of the package) to that of a prety good solid state amp or an epiphone valve jr. tube amp.

I heard a Smokey Amp through a 4x12 Orange cab once. My jaw literally dropped. Funny how big such a small amp can sound! O:)/
