Bender 4 Life
1929.....my Mother was born at home in the tiny coal mining village of Lillybrook West Virginia. the house had a coal stove, free coal to burn, a coal fired water heater, and running water! but an outhouse that was shared w/their next-door neighbors, only the mine bosses had indoor commodes . My Grandfather had returned to work as the night-shift coal car operator, after having his back broken in an accident in '27. I have the walking cane he fashioned for himself when he was well enough to walk. He and 3 others were killed in a "shale fall"(piece of mine ceiling breaking loose and falling) in '40....he was 40 yrs old. My Grandmother was the mine Nurse that worked the accident.
