(belated) NGD: 2012 J-45 Standard

With my wife's blessing (mostly), I pulled the trigger Christmas Eve on a 2012 J-45 Standard. I spend most of the previous three weeks A/B/C/D/etc. this guitar against others and this one came out on top. Very strong trebles and low E string, stronger than I really expected it to be. Very loud. Very different from the rest on my guitars. I'm still in the "getting to know you" phase with the guitar. I've put into the regular rotation. Here's some pics:

Congratulations on the black nut J-45 - a humble, solid and very convincing guitar.

Wonder what other models were in the race.

I tried everything from a J-45TV, Custom Shop J-45 1960 Heritage Cherry Ltd, mahogany Songwriter, Hummingbird and a J-185 over several visits, about 7-8 visits in the past three weeks. The horse race came down to the TV, CS and mine with me A/B/Cing them extensively. Mine was by far the best guitar for what I'm playing right now. I made sure I bought with my ears this time and tried not to be distracted by specs.

Certainly nothing wrong with the specs. I have one of these and like the black nut a lot. Even chose black for one of my other guitars.

The Standard is a strong card with a full and grounded tone, plenty of bass and overall depth.

Though mine loosens somewhat up, it continues to be rather compressed, which inhibits expressive fingerstrumming - but fingerpicked the 45 is poet.

The palette of the instrument is beautiful = Black, (golden)brown, cream, chrome and that red-wine colored guard.

Besides I have screwed on a brown leather tr-cover and drive 4 dark horn pins, 2 bone.

Some people prefer different tuners, but I quickly got used the steel-mill up there - it's 'raw and masculine', kind of like the guitar (compared to the Bird anyway).

And some people chant about the position of the guard, even move it, as you probably know. Thought about it - no real issue in this camp.

Enjoy -

a leather trussrid cover ? you old devil

...

any chance of a shot of that , or a link to where you got it ?

As an ol rock pirate I just snatched it from my right eye -

Well, I made it after the original myself and have one in black for my Dove too.

Am about to make a third dark-brown, this time for the F-bird. They pull (not least the slightly overblinged guitars) in the right direction.

No pics at the moment -
