cjmwrx Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 So I picked this up a little over a month ago. Price was right, and I really liked the way it felt. Tone didn't matter, as I was going to change all of the wiring and the pups anyway. 2008 (made 2011) LP Standard. Desert Burst dark back. I didn't like the way the nitro on the neck felt as I was really comfortable with the rosewood neck on my PRS. So I decided to change it. Sanded off the nitro on the neck down to bare mahagony. Beautiful neck under that dark nitro as the photos show. Stared with 80, then 300, then 600, then 0000 Steel Wool. Used a satin poly finish after a light grain fill (yes I know it's a poly, that's why I went light). Took me about 2 weeks to finish the neck as I allowed a full 72 hours between coats with a light scuff of steel wool between the coats. 4 coats total. The the pups and QuickConnect wiring came out. I put a Burtsbucker 3 in the bridge after swapping the A2 magnet out for the A5 magnet in the stock BBPro. The Neck pup then came out and the A2 magnet was put in the neck BBPro along with a tap wire for coil tapping. QuickConnect board was then taken out and replaced with factory Gibson 300K Volume pots, and Alpha 500K non-linear push/pulls. Orange Drop .223 caps finished it off. Left the Nuetrick locking jack as I quite like that feature. Rest of the hardware was left stock. It sound great. The bridge just screams, but rolls off nicely. The Neck is nice and fat without being boomy. I am really happy with the neck finish. Pics.
Eracer_Team Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 interesting but it looks like pretty good work on the neck. not sure I like the light neck with dark back though. you could almost make a Bonamassa Burst out of this guitar, just need to nylon the first 3 saddles and top wrap a set of 11-52's and mix the control knobs. question: why did you go with the 300k volumes when most people when changing the controls out usually go "back" to the 500k volumes?

The stock quickconnect has 300K, so it wasn't an upgrade. I stuck with them because it's what I always use. Never had the need to use 500k pots.
