guitar-mick
Hey there guys, would anyone be able to tell me where I can find out how many Les Pauls were made on April 26th 1991? I am determined to get a Les Paul (standard, custom, any model) that was made on the day I was born and I wanted to know how many were made? Thanks, Mick

Tim Plains
"Well it plays and sounds like sh*t, but hey...it was made the same day I was born." Depending on when you were born, I'd say there's no more than 1,000. Ever since Gibson added a ninth (batch) number to their USA serial numbers, I'd say potentially over 1,000. GuitarJunkie
I own a guitar built (or at least dated) the day my daughter was born, and attempted to get one from the day my son was born. Gibson tried to help me out, but I got the ball rolling a bit too late. I did manage to get one from the day after. What I found out is that currently, the Nashville plant produces approximately 400 guitars a day. I don't know what the numbers were back in '91, but they're probably not far off. BTW, if anyone comes across a Gibson electric with a serial number starting with 00508****, let me know. You should probably mention the actual serial number you're looking for to make it easier for people to be on the lookout for you. Since april 26th is the 116th day of the year, you'll be looking for one starting with 91161****.
Col F
I have always wondered this...is the date that is associated with the guitar the day it was completed or the day they started working on it? The Serial Number is stamped in the headstock when a neck is attached to a body. The guitar is still unfinished, and typically has about another week or two in the factory getting sprayed, etc... Nashville is actually hoping to pump out over 1,000 units per day. That's why they added another digit to the serial number convention. I'd bet on "really great quality" slamming out that kind of volume production.........

Thanks, Mick[/quote'] Man, now why'd you have to go and make me feel old? My LP was made some time in 1991, a year after I graduated from college. I do own a 1966 Fender Champ that was built the same year I was born though and bought (read: overpaid for a blackface) just for that reason.
