Guest J-Doug Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 When and why did our friends at Gibson Montana switch to the white label? Communist conspiracy? My new J-45 has the white and my J-100Xtra has the orange. I have to say I prefer the orange.
Red 333 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Around 2008. Orange was chosen for the True Vintage line and also those reissues intended to be more historically accurate. White was chosen for the standard line and the modern-leaning models. Red 333
JuanCarlosVejar Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 also the songwriter(costello , sheryl crow and others) series have white labels . JC

E-minor7 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Awesome looks like a long hair red headed girl Yes it does. . . . . . . . . . . . Btw. don't forget white labels were introduced on Country and Westerns as soon as the mid-50's (i believe) - the ones with the words lassoed in. I've seen pics of C&W's from '54 - with orange label. Birds f.x. continued the orange one up through the decade they were born into.
merseybeat1963 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Dont know why Gibson did but I know why Lowden did.. : )
j45nick Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Dont know why Gibson did but I know why Lowden did.. : ) And the answer is.....?
merseybeat1963 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 And the answer is.....? Lowden guitar co went from a company with him as a part owner and adviser ,subject to other owners...to sole owner, fully under his direction, new location and reversal of some time cutting compromises that were used on those guitars (which were still excellent though). : )
E-minor7 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Admit I find the whites a little more discrete or neutral the orange kind of blends with the Bird, but I definitely prefer white inside the J-45.
