saturn Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I remeber always seeing this guy since the 80s playing in Hall and Oates, Saturday Night Live band, and other places. I never really knew anything about him, but would always recognise him because he had a very memorable look to him. Almost like a characature or cartoon character. Anyway, my buddy and I were recently talking about the 12/12/12 Concert and I mentioned that I saw G.E. Smith playing with Roger Waters band, and I wondered what happened to that guy I always saw wherever G.E. Smith was. A few days later I watched for the first time "Live From Daryl's House". Sitting next to Daryl playing guitar was that guy. So I decided to do a web search a found out his name was Tom "T Bone" Wolk and he unfortunately passed away back in 2010! It turns out he was a fantastic musician and multi instumentalist and that anyone he ever worked with held him in the very highest regard. I wish now that I would have appreciated his talent while he was still here. Heres a link, if it works to a tribute to him from "Live From Darly's House". BTW a great show and I wish I would have know about it sooner. http://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/currentep.html?ep_id=15
ZenKen Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 A wonderful show for sure. The joy these musicians have playing together is evident. Check out the 2 episodes with Rundgren. Really great stuff. And I agree, Tom Wolk was a true talent lost too soon. Good to see you back and posting Jay.
badbluesplayer Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 My good buddy Mickey Curry's the drummer with the short curly hair and flannel shirt at 1:13. Played with them from like '80 to '86 or so. Hired by Tommy Matola. We used to sit at the cafeteria table and play drums on the table and use each others' heads as crash cymbals!
buliwyf Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I remember T-bone on Saturday night live years ago when it was good and I used to watch it,he was playing bass in the band.Seems GE Smith was usually on guitar but you couldnt miss T-bone with the hat he always wore and he seemed to be extremly tall.I'm pretty sure I saw him playing bass live with Hall and Oates in CT. at some ammusemet park over 20 years ago.Sad he's gone but he will be remembered.
