hydrodriver Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Have any of you had your hardware replated? If so who did it. I am wanting to have my bridge and tailstop replated. It is gold. Thanks
tweed2 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I've done black powder coating for Rickenbacker stuff before and it's not cheap. Plating isn't any cheaper. If the parts are readily available (and they should be), buying new would be the most finacially efficient way to fix the problem.
hydrodriver Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Wish I could find new parts but I have an old Sheraton with the narrow bridge and can't find one anywhere!
amx05462 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 http://www.caswellplating.com/electroplating-anodizing/gold-plating-kits/gold-brush-plating/plug-n-plate-gold-kit.html you could go this route ive used there chrome and nickel kits . they work very well
Whitmore Willy Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 To AMX, ... That does look interesting. Thanks for the link! Might give it a try myself, sometime. Hydrodriver, See what a jewelry shop would charge. Willy

Coach Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I restore old cars and use a company here in the Chicago area, http://www.thefinishingtouchinc.com/ . These guys are not cheap, but when you have to have it you have to have it. I have gold trim on my Rickenbacker, the control plate is worn where my hand brushes when I pick. One of these days I will spend the money to buy a replacement, but the truth is if you play your instrument that gold plating wears REALLY quick. -Harry
