BluesKing777 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 No affiliation! I read the Elderly site regularly, and have purchased 2 Gibsons through them - can't say enough good things about them - great for the 'mug punter' over in OZ! I noticed this 2010 Gibson J45 TV on their site a while back, and really, after what everyone says about them, I am really surprised it is still for sale. I look at their listings, I know, I shouldn't, I shouldn't..... but I do have a little bet with myself at how long some of the listings are going to last - I think the record shortest time that I noticed was a Hummingbird that they may not have even unpacked....... There are a few Gibsons that have been there forever, but a couple that surprise me - must be the prices? Any thoughts, insider knowledge? 2010 J$% TV: http://www.elderly.com/vintage/names/gibson-j-45-true-vintage-%282010%29--20U-14452.htm BluesKing777.
j45nick Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Believe it or not, $2350 is a bit steep in the US for a TV in EX- condition. Should probably go for about $1900, if that.
Motherofpearl Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I agree with Nick used I've seen from 1800-2200
duluthdan Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 $1,900 is what I paid for mine with a big repaired side crack, and David Hidalgo mojo. I can't remember having more legal fun for that kind of money. New TVs are going for just under $3, and some of those even had the new Trance Mono in them. I tried dealing on a Fender Strat that had been sitting on the same hook on the same wall for 2 years. Shop would not budge.
BluesKing777 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 That's why I asked! Thanks. Though if the guitar is real good to play, it is........gone no matter what price. They had ways around budging on the price for international customers too - that price listed is the price paid! And it is the same IN the shop - I'm surprised. I always thought I was fleeced a bit because they think us Australians all dig up the gold in mines - I played in a mineshaft once when I was a kid and got into strife, but apart from that I have never been near a mine..... Stubee Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I played that TV on Friday. It is very nice but IME not a 'killer' Gibson & it is hanging with an AJ and others that sound at least as good. Still a very nice guitar...

craig_no Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Maybe because they're not a "new Gibson" dealer, they are off the radar of many Gibson fans. I have also found them reluctant to budge on used prices, but that is probably because they are trade-ins or on consignment. No affiliation! jannusguy2 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I have always thought their prices too high. Acquired a couple of cases and other odds/ends from them but never a guitar. I do enjoy viewing their inventory on line after which I go price comparing.
Murph Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I have also found them reluctant to budge on used prices, but that is probably because they are trade-ins or on consignment. Yep, they are probably "in" them for a certain price.
zombywoof Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 There is really no reason to buy a newish guitar from Elderly other than if it could be had at a killer price. The Elderly seal of approval while meaning something with vintage instruments means nothing with new or recent guitars. It is not a hard to find the model which means you can scrounge one from any number of places or better yet wander over to their Guitar Center or whatever and actually get to try before buying.
BluesKing777 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Thanks for the replies. Very interesting. I must point out that years ago, I would never have dreamed of buying anything over the internet, especially a guitar, but I guess times have changed, I read this forum and get influenced badly! Fever strikes. Next thing, whooosh, guitar in the mail. Easy, price paid, wanted it! I doubt I would have ordered any guitars online if I did not already own my Gibson Blues King and others - I was ready to experiment with the online.....there are not a lot of the smaller Gibson acoustics getting around Australia, SO..................................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<!!!!! Stubee Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I didn't mean to be 'negative' about the TV. It is a fine guitar. A friend and I liked two other somewhat similar Gibsons better, that's all. I've been around a couple guitars & know how much simple things like strings, picks alone can impact tone. It was a light & responsive guitar. I've done business with Elderly since they first opened on Grand River about 1971 or so. It is a good place.
BluesKing777 Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 While I was looking for strings (see other thread), I ran past Elderly's site, also couldn't resist a look at the vintage Gibsons F/S, and I notice the one mentioned in the original thread has been sold! Someone thought it was a good deal! Anyone here the new owner? BluesKing777. EDIT: And now there is a nice looking Gibson SJ200 TV!
