Rabs Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 So the LP DC is one of my favorite types of Gibson.. Ive only ever played one of the Special DCs (that I own) and never even seen a DC Standard in real life.. Ive been waiting for a while for Gibson to make some new ones.. I came across this (pretty awful) video of a band who visited the Gibson factory just before doing a tour.. And it was only posted a few days ago.. (you may want to turn the sound off) Go to about 1:27.. is that a new DC Standard I spy?? :) (or is it a custom order?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekzo9H3xXAc We need more DCs.. so I really hope they are coming soon (hint hint :P)
Versatile Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Nice guitars... Dreadful haircuts... For those who like DC's...have a gander at the ES 335-S... V
btoth76 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Yes...the longhorns aren't that impressive, and together with the Tak signature they are missing an all-important tone-pot. I would prefer the Gary Moore's 24-fret quilted top DC. Cheers... Bence
Rabs Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Nice guitars... Dreadful haircuts... For those who like DC's...have a gander at the ES 335-S... V Yeah I saw the 335s..... At the time I had like eight guitars lol so didnt even contemplate getting one (not that Ive ever seen one of those over here)...
Rabs Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 What I REALLY want is one that looks like one of these This one would be amazing But would be happy with the non bound ones too Or even
Versatile Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Yeah I saw the 335s..... At the time I had like eight guitars lol so didnt even contemplate getting one (not that Ive ever sae one of those over here)... They had them last year at CODA Luton.... V PS They still have them today...
CoreyT Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Rabs, the two you just posted look very similar in shape as my PRS SE Santana in my sig pic below. I like it!
Rabs Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Rabs, the two you just posted look very similar in shape as my PRS SE Santana in my sig pic below. I like it! Yup... PRS stole the shape :) I believe there were court cases about this quite a while back?
CoreyT Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I know PRS got in trouble for copying the LP shape (who has not copied it), but I never heard anything about copying Carlo's guitar getting them in trouble.
Searcy Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I believe that's the other way around. Gibson came out with the DC's in the 90's to try to win back players that was switched to PRS by making a guitar that was very PRS like with a double cut away, 24 frets, one volume knob, one tone knob, one switch and a wrap around bridge. My first Les Paul was this 1997 DC Studio. Great guitar. Soon to be for sale.

AXE® Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I had the pleasure of fondling this little gem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZAjymRsuY8
Rabs Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 I had the pleasure of fondling this little gem. Thats sweet Love me the LP Junior.. Which is why I have one :) Would still like to try a DC Standard some day. This is my one (old video now :)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXAJoN6huWI
Searcy Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 But surely the LP Juniors of the 60s were the first double cuts? Yes yes... and Hammer got their start by making copies of that classic. I was talking about the carved top DCs of the 90's that were pretty much Gibson ripping off PRS. Gibson posted this on Face book a little while ago. What's that first guitar there? Don't look like a long horn.

Yeah I wont ever sell my DC either.. I love it way too much... And yeah that pic is interesting.. Hmm, so maybe my prayers will be answered and im right that theres some new ones on the way? :) I hope so.. I think with a DC you get the best of bothe worlds.. The awesomeness of a LP with the upper fret access of an SG..

Murph Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 But surely the LP Juniors of the 60s were the first double cuts? The '61 Melody Maker double cut / twin pickup on the far right is one piece of solid Mahogany. It was red originally. But, the Es-335's came out in the 50's, eh?

Of corse, that might be the other, other way around. The actual shape Gibby used for the origonal DC's was a double-cut Special (SG), but with a Maple cap and a carved top. Definitely a responce to PRS, but I'd say Gibson was first with it. But, at the same time, I'd still call a PRS "origonal".
