elantric Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I'd like to build my new 2009 live rig on the Dark Fire system with a Macbook Pro, RIP box , Guitar Rig, and Ableton, and a pair of JBL EON 15P full range speakers or Bose L1 system. Can I Plug my other Guitars into RIP Box 1/4" Guitar Input - and have a functional mono Guitar Input via the RIP to feed my Strat into NI Guitar Rig 3?
Anderton Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I just tested this out in Germany, and yes, you can as long as you use a standard (mono) guitar cable. Also, if you use this kind of cable with Dark Fire, it will "look" just like a regular guitar with standard magnetic pickups to the RIP. The piezo and hex outputs require using a TRS (stereo) cable for interfacing with the RIP. BTW I'm not a Gibson employee so I suppose this isn't gospel, but I've seen the RIP work and I believe it is designed specifically to work as you describe in addition to doing all the Dark Fire tricks.
elantric Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Craig, Thanks for getting a reply so fast - I know you are a busy guy. This news is fantastic! BTW - In a round about way I have you to thank for helping me buy the Gibson Dark Fire, as it was due to your early articles ("Build a Timbre Gate) in Popular Electronics that I cultivated an electronics hobby in my teens which turned into a career as a EE - which presents a decent salary to afford toys - ahem - I mean "tools"!
nolongermike@gibson Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 It seemed to work that way for me too, Craig. Its a recording device for anything else plugged into it, like any other Firewire recording device. With Dark Fire plugged in, it does all the other things Dark Fire can do.
