New Les Paul paint Peeling and Bubbling

I bought a new LP Standard a few months ago and after one gig, a large piece of paint flaked off on the back.....Trust me I know what a belt buckle can do and it's NOT this.....The paint continued to bubble and peel off. I sent a request to Gibson and was denied warranty repeatedly.....They claim I did this with a sharp object and I abused the guitar.....How many people can peel paint off their LP with there fingers????? This guitar is DEFECTED, and Gibson won't cover it....BTW this is the 2nd guitar I've had this happen with this year, the other one I returned to the company I bought it from....This one I'm stuck. Has anyone else ever had this happen?????? All I can say is, I'm extremely disappointed in the way Gibson is ran these days, the people that purchase their products should not have to pay when they make mistakes.

Thx,

Jeff

They expressly state that they do not warrant the finish in any way.

Take it to an authorized dealer, show it to them, say nothing of your contact with Gibson, and do not shittalk the company. If your guitar is really a couple months old and a chunka paint came off, the repair guy should, should I say, be able to see your complaint it legitimate. It would be especially helpful if you returned it to the Gibson boy you bought it from. If it's been a couple months, they should pretty much take it back and get you another, if you can show them a dubious paint job.

I hate to say it, but if it just looks like a gouge in the paint you ain't gettin nothin. It's a rough guitar world, but that's how it is.

Good luck with it.

Are you saying that you bought two completely different guitars from two completely different retailers and the exact same thing happened in both cases after one gig?

You said the most recent one was brand new.

You returned the other one.

Was that one brand new too?

Without pictures it's hard to give an opinion as to the cause.

But unless you bought them both from the same place, or can show that the two guitars were manufactred around the same time in a bad batch from the factory, it sounds like the same thing happened to both guitars AFTER they left the factory and found their way to you.

If you don't have pictures of the guitar/guitars, maybe a picture of your belt buckle.

Chunks of paint falling off . . . on two different guitars in one year. That's pretty unusual.

Good luck.

To guarantee a guitar finish is just as much risky as to guarantee car finishes...That's why they do not take any responsibility for it. Imagine, how hard to tell which damage is a result of poor manufacturing or mistreating by the owner. Not to mention: "regular wear" is how much a subjective term.

If that's the second case, I - can't help but - suspect that the harm is done by You somehow, accidentally. The clothes You wear, sweat, whatever...

May I ask You to post pictures? I never seen or heard of paint peeling of a Gibson...I am very curious about it. Thank You!

Good luck for finding a satisfying solution to Your problem!

Cheers... Bence
