t-bone Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 These were taken earlier today, before it fell on it's head. Don't know why, but I've never liked the Heritage Cherry Sunburst. I prefer a lemon or "unburst" of sorts. But it sort of works on this top. Notice the strange "V" shaped grain that runs opposite the flame. Also, this one felt the best and sounded the best of the lot on offer, so I went for it. Same story as with my butt ugly Fiesta Red strat - I'll pick feel and tone over looks any day! Daylight shots will follow as soon as we get a sunny day up here. I'll send her out for a neck repair some time next week, will show close ups of how that went too.
BIGBENDS Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 It's always nice to have the uniqueness of an irregular wood grain, T-bone. You've got yourself a keeper there. Heritage Cherry is color that looks great on some guitars and not so great on other guitars. To me it's the most inconsistent looking finish of the Bursts. Looks great on that piece of maple you've got. I hope the neck repair is a great success. Get yourself some good straplocks and from now on you should only play her in bed.
FennRx Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 the heritage cherry of the USA line does nothing for me. Compare to the Historic HCSB:
t-bone Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Well FennRx, I take your point. There's nothing quite like a R9, but as I've stated earlier I still prefer "unbursts" over both yours and mine. Still, it's more the audience that'll see the front than the guitarist. Tone and feel over looks any day. This one is a bit too heavy at 9.49 lbs, but the neck is super fast and it is very lively acoustically. I might go for vintage spec pots and caps to brighten up the sound a bit, it is a tad on the dark side. From what I've gathered I think new pots etc would be the first step, anyone done this to their standard?
Bluemoon Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 She is a great looking guitar. I feel really bad for you that she fell on her head. I can't imagine the feeling. Hopefully you will get her repaired soon and she will look as good as new.
Tim Plains Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 That weight is still baffling me... I replaced the pots in my old Standard and just swapping the caps can make a modest improvement. Get paper in oil caps, whatever you do. You can get Sprauge Vit Q caps cheap off of eBay.
Murph Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Nice top. I LIKE the new American Standard. A LOT ....... Murph.
KSG_Standard Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Beautiful guitar! Sorry about the accident. If the fix is done properly, it won't affect the guitar at all. I prefer the "unburst", lemon burst and transparent yellow/amber as well.
