Run Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Hi, has anybody tried these ? I'm still looking for the best sounding and playable strings for my SWD. Elixir PB or 80/20 sound a little flat and found the Martin 80/20 11-52 much better. These Dean Markley are made using a different (flat) winding...so more metal for the same string inches so they promise more sound...more volume. Your reviews of these would be very appreciated. ...and btw: healthy new year to all. Dean Markley Helix Acoustic Strings.
j45nick Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Haven't used these, but they lost me when the blurb on their website said "As a matter of fact, the Helix HD is the most innovative break-through in string tech since the beginning of stringed instruments!" Enthusiasm for your product I understand. Hyperbole sends me running for the exit......

I was going to give them an try, but I think I'll wait for a review or two now.
Run Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 I agree that their publicity is a little exaggerated but to find out by myself, I've already ordered three sets from "Strings and Beyond": 11-52 PB, 11-52 80-20 and one electric 10-46 nikel plated steel. I'll give my review of these after trying them a few days.
merseybeat1963 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Im into antiquity.. Why not try guitar strings as they were once made (before compromises of mass production implimented) as well. *Tomastic Infeld(Seems to be the most first rate) *Newtone *DR Sunbeam Are on my list to go for once Ive sorted some issues on my Martin(done) & Gibson(slightly too much relief but truss rod seems stuck..and once that is solved, raise at end of fingerboard)
Run Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 I agree that their publicity is a little exaggerated but to find out by myself, I've already ordered three sets from "Strings and Beyond": 11-52 PB, 11-52 80-20 and one electric 10-46 nikel plated steel. I'll give my review of these after trying them a few days. Well, just tried these (11-52 80-20) and my first impressions are on the + side. It's like playing with medium without the stiffnest. These strings sound very well according to "my taste" and they are carefully wrapped in their sealed box. I also like the bronze color of the first ones. More metal on the same length having an effect seems logic to me. The first string sounds good played anywhere without to much ringing near the bridge. Just hope that they last. I'll try PB on my Martin and the 10-46 nikel plated steel on my US Strat. Well, after a week and many hours of playing I must say that they now sound better than new...the only downside is that the E string sounds a little flat played on the higher frets. They feel softer on my finger and they stay in tune.
