ZOSO1215 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I was thinking about getting someone to install this in my new 08 Std+ (got the desert burst finish and it's beautiful). http://www.torresengineering.com/noname7.html Just wanted to know if anyone has heard anything about this company? Or if it would be a good idea to have this installed in such a nice guitar?
Silverbursted Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I've heard of the kit, but not the company. Sounds pretty cool though, let us know how it goes if you do it.
nikko18 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the page wiring kit is awesome but 139 dollars if a f***ing rip off! just go to ebay and you can get the four push pull pots for like 15 to 20 bucks. then just find a wiring diagram for it on google and take it to a luthier for lhave it done for like 40 bucks. but you need to have pickups with four lead wires to do it.
ZOSO1215 Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 yeah i just realized the BB Pros aren't 4 conductor and there's no way i'm taking them out of this guitar. they're way to badass. they really make the guitar. looking at doing it on a studio. alpine white is looking good. just gotta start saving up again!

It might sound a little crazy - but unless you really want to, it's a bit of a shame to rewire a Gibson. It's one of the few things on these guitars that are still constant. The wiring inside these guitars is like a piece of art!
ALIEN8 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +11111111111111111 $140 for parts!?! $400 to install!?? These guys really are trying to capitalize on Jimmy's success, and your ignorance!! I've done this to my 7... some settings are great, which is why I did it, but I just ended up taking most of it out. Overall you just end up using the 3 settings you do like. I spent about $35, and 3 hours to wire a number of different circuits. It is good for a simple guitar + amp set-up, but still too complex on the operation side of things on the fly. Push pull pots require good grips on them for those hot and sweaty days when your hands slide off of everything.
RichCI Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Actually, it's $250 installed at their shop. The $139 isn't just for the parts, it comes prewired (soldered) leaving the buyer to solder just the pickups and output jack. That said, it doesn't seem like such a bad deal to me: Push/Pull pots at StewMac cost $9-$13 so that's at $36-$52 Spool of wire at StewMac: $15-$25 (depending if it's 4 conductor or not) So, that's $51-$77 in parts - plus shipping. That leaves $62-$124 for tech time to wire the thing together. That's not including whatever caps or anything else that might be needed. If you don't already have tools for soldering, you can also add in a soldering iron, flux and solder. The wiring itself sounds pretty complicated unless you're pretty handy with a soldering iron so it could be money well spent. An alternative is to buy Stewmac's JPLP kit for $48.56, but you'll have to put it all together yourself.

Can't say I recall if I've heard good or bad about them though but their name comes up sometimes in the alt.guitar.amps newsgroup.
