Pickax Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Hello - I've been playing Guitars for the past 30+ years and I've owned a good variety of Dreadnaughts along the way. Most of my Guitars have been Martins but I've also owned a Huss & Dalton, a Guild and a Taylor. A few years back I bought my first Gibson, a J-60. It was a very nice Guitar but I traded it for a 89 D-28. Since selling that Gibson. I've always thought about getting another one but never got around to pulling the trigger. Well, that changed in an alarming way during the past two weeks. I now have a 06 J-45 RW and a 95 L-00 Blues King - both in Sunburst. The 45 is the first slope shoulder, short scale Guitar I've owned and the L-00 is the first 00 I've owned. I've been playing Martins for so long that my ears had grown accustomed to that tone. With these two Gibson's in the house. my tonal spectrum has made a significant transformation. I love the way these Guitars sound! Actually, I'm having a hard time setting them down. I've accomplished very little this past week other than playing these Guitars. I don't see that changing any time soon. Both of these Guitars have exceeded my expectations in tone, playability, fit and finish. I feel fortunate to have them and I hope to remain G.A.S. free for a very long run.
Pickax Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 The picture quality is certainly lacking here but it's enough to get the idea.
brrobert Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Nobody does burst like Gibson. Beautiful guitars you have.
Jayla Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Nobody does burst like Gibson. Beautiful guitars you have. Gibson bursts are indeed fine' date=' but so are Collings. Here's a thread with a lot of beautiful bursts, some Collings, Gibsons, Martins, et al.
Pickax Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Nobody does burst like Gibson. Beautiful guitars you have. I forgot to mention, these two Gibson's are also the first Sunburst's I've owned. I always thought I preferred the natural look to a Spruce top but these bursts are beautiful. I don't care for some of the Sunburst tops I see on Guitars these days but I do like the way Gibson does them.
suburude63 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Collings are nice but Martins are really bad in my mind. Gibson SBs rule hands down!
Rosewoody Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Hello Pickax, Those are very nice guitars and welcome to the forum. Martins and Taylors are fine in their way, and Gibsons make a great complement--a little more funk and idiosyncracy.
jefleppard Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 gorgeous burst and a nice pair. nice choice in models, too! gives you a very wide tonal spectrum.
Jinder Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Wonderful guitars! Two of my favourite Gibson models. Those L00s are amazing, and the J45RW is a chocolate delight. Congrats and welcome!
jannusguy Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 all burst, all the time. not pictured, '08 J45 TV LTD or "54 J45 (it comes tomorrow!}

Hoss Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Welcome to the club, Pickax! You're not the first person to get hooked on the sound of a Gibson. I like those J45 rosewoods- some of the prettiest sounding guitars, IMO. And I'm not a 'rosewood' guy, but whenever I get my mitts on one of those it's hard to turn loose!
Pickax Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 I'm really having a lot of fun playing these two Guitars! Nice collection there Jannusguy. I really don't know too much about Gibson's Acoustic Guitar history or their Acoustic line so I'm looking forward to soaking up some information. I'm very familiar with Gibson's Mandolin history but their Guitars are another story. I've known for decades that the 45 is a classic but just recently discovered the L-00. In a very short span of time, I've become a Gibson convert
