Moving switch on Gibson Midtown Standard

Funkyard

Recommended Posts

I have a Gibson Midtown Standard like the guitar a lot find the switch inconvenient. Thinking of either moving the switch to the Volume position, Volume to the Tone and Tone to where the switch was (Switch, Volume Tone) or trade the switch & tone control positions so it will be Volume/Switch/Tone Any comments or other suggestions? As a long time 335/345 player, I would find sw/vol/tone more "traditional".

But then... with the switch so close to the bridge I would make sure it wouldn't be "too close", such that you might hit it with your strumming/picking hand inadvertently.

Yey it is close I think since I would use the volume control the most, switch 2nd and tone last that that order would make sense in making the switch more accessible Thanks

Your problem is going to be the difference in hole size between the 3-way switch and the volume/tone pots.

The 3-way switch thread shaft is much larger than the shaft on pots, so you would have to find a way to fasten a pot in the larger hole of the switch and you would have to drill the hole larger where you want to put the 3-way switch.

Very good point, I'll have to talk to the repair shop to see what their 2 cents is re making the larger hole smaller Thanks

If you have a Midtown custom it is a different guitar anyway

No, basically it's the same body. Just has two additional pots located below where yours are since it has separate vol/tone for each pickup. It looks like the location of your three controls are exactly where my switch and the vol/tone pots are for my neck pickup. My pic isn't great, but there are plenty of others on here if you want to verify further.
