smotzy2005
Hey trying to find out about my newly acquired SG. The number on the back is 00170424 it also has the Les Paul Custom plate on it. I've added a bunch of pictures it's a real beautiful guitar. Any help would be much appreciated.
cjsinla
That serial number might mean it was made in 2000. Looks like a special model as it has a maple? top?

Ya it looks like a SG but the body is built more like a Les Paul, the wood pattern runs the opposite way and has the split down the middle. cjsinla
Right. Maple top. They do make some SGs like that.

Big Bill
It looks sweet, but I have to agree that is not a Gibson.
cjsinla
It may not be a Les Paul Custom SG but the Gibson/Epiphone Co does make SGs with maple tops that look like that http://www.andertons...hiscox-case.asp I believe it is a Gibson. Someone probably put the Les Paul plate on there.

There aren't enough pics and good enough pics to say for absolute certainty (for me anyway), but there is a lot more "non" Gibson than just the plate above the neck pup. With so much wrong with this guitar for being genuine or factory, there needs to be more pics and proof it is a Gibby than it ain't a Gibby. marvar
The slotted bridge posts send up a red flag for me- also, the control layout doesn't look right to me, but I'm not up on SG's Can't tell for sure, but it looks like no nibs on the fretboard
