Ugly Burst

Recommended Posts

It's even uglier than the standard modern Martin sunburst, which I don't care for, although it follows the same concept.

It is so unattractive that if I had it, I would consider stripping it and turning it into an SJN. But at that price, you can't justify it.

It's interesting that this is the second 19-fret/large pickguard 1955 we've seen here in recent days.

Hmmm - I kind of like this one.

I'm not a fan of sunbursts that go to black, and really don't care for the typical tapered burst on most Gibsons.

The more of the wood you can see, the better, imho.

This example reminds me of some Epiphone (by Gibson) bursts from the '60s (& the Epi pickguard flows better with the burst),

and of course Martin has a similar burst, which I also like.

Still, I'd prefer a natural finish, or ice tea burst any day of the week.

Do you think that's original? I've never seen anything like it.

pretty sure its original, Ive had it for 32 years, and bought it from a man that said he bought it new..it looked like an old guitar then, so I dont think it was refinished

Yeah ugly .... I don't like the way that the burst goes all the way to the top.

"Custom Sunburst nitro finish is aged from being done several years earlier" statement leads me to think that it was a refinish job.

This guitar has been listed and re-listed for quite some time (months). In earlier listings, it was made clear that it was a re-finish. At one time, the listing referred to it as a "custom Martin sunburst". I think they keep trying to figure out to slip it by without actually lying.
